Even though we’re all pretty excited for Daniel Craig’s final outing as 007, there’s been a ton of negative press swarming around Bond 25. In addition to numerous delays and the high-profile exit of Danny Boyle from behind the camera, rumors and reports have pointed to the latest James Bond movie being in total disarray, and that’s not even mentioning Craig’s recent injury which resulted in production coming to a halt for a while.
It seems Sony is trying to redirect the narrative a bit now though as last week, they released an enticing behind the scenes promo for Bond 25 and this week, they’ve followed that up with the first official image. It doesn’t reveal very much at all, but down in the gallery below we see Craig looking sharp in a suit as he walks through the streets of London. This seems to be a promotional shot rather than a still taken from the film itself, but it’s a welcome look at the movie regardless.
In regards to the plot, we know that Bond 25 sees 007 enjoying a peaceful life in Jamaica, having left the spy world behind him. Everything changes though when Felix Leiter from the CIA approaches him and asks for his help in rescuing a kidnapped scientist. Of course, the mission ends up being more dangerous than expected, leading James to the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.
Directing the next outing in the franchise is True Detective and Beasts of No Nation helmsman Cary Joji Fukunaga, who explained in an interview last year that he wants to make a 007 movie that “subverts the genre but still stays faithful to it.” That’s certainly an interesting angle to take, and we’ll find out just what he has in store for us when Bond 25 hits theaters on April 8th, 2020.
