Francis Ford Coppola casts LeBeouf in major new project

Actor Shia LaBeouf has been on another apology tour for his behavior lately. The Hollywood Reporter reveals the 36-year-old who now says he is sober will play a part in Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis. Coppola has eyed making the movie for years, finally is getting around to it now after decades of development hell, is self-financing the project, and has made its other roles something of a family affair for the 83-year-old artist.

Film fans name the moments that turned the mundane into the iconic

Film fans name the moments that turned the mundane into the iconic

The greatest joy of dramatization lies in the fact that you can take just about any scenario, be it brushing one’s teeth, digging a hole, or eating a piece of pie, and, through the magic of blocking and dialogue, turn it into something delightfully entertaining; some of us would gladly sit through an hour and a half of two characters talking about socks, provided someone like Tarantino provided the script.

It’s truly the historic bread and butter of movie magic, and in honor of the many unforgettable moments that have cropped up because of it, r/movies is picking out the some of cinema’s most entertaining scenes that stemmed from a mundane activity.

Fed-up filmgoers name the most unnecessary remakes

Fed-up filmgoers name the most unnecessary remakes

Superheroes may be the most dominant force in cinema as of late, but coming in at a respectably close second is nostalgia; between the plethora of live-action remakes coming out of Disney and the rebooting/continuation of such storied franchises as Halloween and Predator, you would think that time is beginning to collapse in on itself.

But for every Top Gun: Maverick, there’s another remake or nostalgia-fest that just drops our spirits to the ground before mercilessly stomping all over them with an electric gusto that was almost certainly absent from the studio’s endeavors. With a pack of r/movies regulars craving some originality, they’ve taken to naming the remakes that none of us asked for.

All that has changed now that GKIDS, a company specializing in distributing animation, has made the entire Studio Ghibli catalog available for digital rent, according to Variety. The movies will be available on streaming services like Amazon VOD, Apple TV, Microsoft, and Google Play.

A dark and dusty Tom Cruise reboot wraps up streaming success

Tom Cruise might have ruled this year’s box office following his triumphantly successful sequel Top Gun: Maverick, but a far more surprising twist of events has occurred concerning one of the star’s worst-reviewed efforts. International audiences are breathing new life into the desiccated cadaver of Universal’s The Mummy, the “first” movie in the aborted attempt to set up a shared universe of the studio’s Universal Monsters properties. The film is also, arguably, the least-liked theatrical effort of Cruise’s career.

The Mummy was supposed to set the stage for an entire shared “Dark Universe” that would feature updated reimaginings of the iconic Horror characters that made Universal the powerhouse genre leader in the mid-20th century. New versions of The Wolfman, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Bride of Frankenstein, and even Dracula were meant to hit screens. Unfortunately for the studios, the hugely underwhelming Mummy outing tanked at the box office, taking in roughly half as much as its budget in the domestic market, and even earning Cruise a Golden Raspberry for his acting efforts.

‘Hocus Pocus 2’ director explains why two iconic characters aren’t in the movie

No matter what summer diehards may have you believe, Spooky Season is right around the corner, and Millennials have even more reason to celebrate the annual return of jack o’lanterns, trick or treating, and things that go bump in the night. After a jaw-dropping absence of nearly thirty years, Winnie, Mary, and Sarah Sanderson are back for Hocus Pocus 2. But while the sequel will feature many a familiar face, two of the stars of the original will sadly not appear.

According to director Anne Fletcher, neither Omri Katz nor Vinessa Shaw — who played teens Max and Allison, the Sanderson sister’s objects of torment in the original 1993 film — will be returning to appear in the long-awaited sequel. Although attempts were made to introduce the characters into the new story, ultimately it was too difficult to make an appearance, even a cameo, feel natural. Fletcher told Entertainment Weekly,
