Jamie Lee Curtis Explains How Halloween Kills Has Gotten Even More Timely

Jamie Lee Curtis Explains How Halloween Kills Has Gotten Even More Timely

One of the hardest COVID-19-related movie delays to swallow for fans has been Halloween Killswhich was pushed back a whole year from this October to next October. It was especially crushing as Blumhouse is hyping the follow-up to its 2018 reboot-quel up as what could be one of the best entries in the 40-year saga. Now, star Jamie Lee Curtis has pointed out how Kills would have been such a timely film for 2020 as it accidentally touches on one of the biggest events of the year.

While speaking on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show, Curtis talked about something that’s been teased before, that this movie is less about Laurie’s personal trauma and more about the trauma felt by the town of Haddonfield, Illinois as a whole, as Michael Myers’ murdering antics have affected the local citizens at large, not just the Strode family. Curtis explains, then, that Kills is about what happens when a mob mentality takes over.

“[Halloween] 2018 was about Laurie’s trauma, right? It was focused on Laurie Strode, but you know, there are a lot of other people that had the result of Michael Myers in 1978,” Curtis explains. “…Halloween Kills movie is about a mob. So what I will tell you is that what we were seeing around the country of the power of the rage of voices, big groups of people coming together enraged at the set of circumstances, that’s what the movie is. The movie is about a mob. And so it’s very interesting because it takes on what happens when trauma infects an entire community.”

To the actress, this story choice turned out to be eerily prescient of all that went on over this summer with the #BLM movement and the associated rioting and clashing of groups of different ideologies that took place primarily in the States but also in many places around the world. Curtis believes that Kills reflects the societal attitudes that we’ve all seen play out in real life of late.

“We’re seeing it in action and Halloween Kills weirdly enough, dovetailed onto that proceeded it, it was written before that occurred, but then of course, so when you see it, it’s a seething group of people moving through the story as a big angry group, it’s really, really, really intense… because the trauma isn’t just Laurie’s…. And again, I want to remind everybody, it was pre Black Lives Matter movement, and yet the same activity takes over in Halloween Kills.”

It’s not just its unintended social commentary that the movie has going for it, though. Curtis also gave a brief review of her thoughts on David Gordon Green’s second Halloween film and she made clear that she’s a fan: “It’s a masterpiece,” she said. And Curtis has been in enough Halloween flicks to know the different between a good and bad one, so this is a pretty ringing endorsement.

Sadly, we didn’t get to catch Halloween Kills this October, but it’s coming next year instead. Luckily, there are a bevy of other films in the franchise to watch this Halloween night in its place.

Kevin Feige Reportedly Doesn’t Think Deadpool Can Fit Into The MCU

Kevin Feige Reportedly Doesn’t Think Deadpool Can Fit Into The MCU

As the man with the keys to the kingdom, Kevin Feige can pretty much do whatever he wants in regards to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and nobody’s going to argue. The Incredible Hulk was released just a few weeks after Iron Man launched the entire franchise, but after Marvel Studios struck out on their own the movie was quietly swept under the rug, with William Hurt’s Thaddeus Ross the one and only thing that connects it to the rest of the interconnected mythology.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was heavily touted and directly marketed as a direct continuation that existed on the peripherals of the movies, as were the lineup of Netflix shows, but they too were disregarded from canon once Feige assumed control of Marvel’s TV output, with WandaVision set to mark the official small screen expansion over seven years after Joss Whedon directed the former’s pilot episode.

Nobody argues with the boss man, and we’ve heard from our sources – the same ones that told us Ben Affleck would be returning as Batman in The Flash weeks before it was confirmed – that Feige is the main holdup on Deadpool 3, because he isn’t a particularly big fan of the character and doesn’t see how he can fit into the established order of the MCU, thinking he’s too goofy and will cause issues with the current continuity and story being told.

According to our intel, the producer believes that the introduction of a self-aware and fourth wall-breaking meta superhero poses too many narrative problems, and Feige is also said to be against handing any sort of major creative control over to Ryan Reynolds given that he’s always called the shots. Disney are said to be pushing harder than Marvel for Deadpool 3 due to the obvious box office potential, and they certainly want the character to have a big presence in the MCU, but Feige is reportedly the major stumbling block right now in bringing the Merc with a Mouth back to our screens.

Felicity Jones Wants Disney To Resurrect Her Rogue One Character

Felicity Jones Wants Disney To Resurrect Her Rogue One Character

Since acquiring the rights to the galaxy far, far away in 2012, Disney has produced five Star Wars movies, three of which revolve around the Skywalker Saga and one, involving a young Han Solo, was the Box Office equivalent of the black sheep in the family.

In a sense, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story remains the only movie that almost everyone unironically enjoyed. The film was a huge success too, grossing over $1 billion against a budget of $265 million. But alas, the story itself, taking place before A New Hope, didn’t leave much room for potential sequels or spinoffs.

Granted, the Mouse of House is working on a Disney+ series featuring Cassian Andor, but we haven’t heard much about the project over the past couple of years. So, it’s safe to assume that things may not be going as well as Disney had originally intended.

As you recall, Rogue One‘s final moments showed our heroes delivering the Death Star plans to the Rebellion. The Empire then used the weapon to destroy Scarif, killing both Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor in the process. Though it appears that even Felicity Jones is open to reprising her role. In a recent interview with Hollywood Reporter, the Theory of Everything star was asked if there’d been any talks about a sequel, to which she said:

“I just keep saying that reincarnation is totally possible in the Star Wars universe [laughs.] So, I feel there’s unfinished business for Jyn, for sure.”

As Jones explains, reincarnation is indeed possible for characters in Star Wars. But I don’t suppose a Force Ghost would be of much use to anyone as a main character in a potential Rogue One: A Star Wars Story sequel, not to mention that only Force-sensitive individuals can access this ability and only if they manage to become one with the Force.

James Bond Star Daniel Craig Pays Tribute To Sean Connery

James Bond Star Daniel Craig Pays Tribute To Sean Connery

The one and only Sir Sean Connery was announced to have passed away at the age of 90 today, causing the internet to erupt with messages of mourning and respect towards the legendary actor. As well as the numerous beloved movies he made throughout his career, including The Rock, The Untouchables and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Connery will be best remembered as the very first actor to play James Bond on the big screen, and the favorite of many.

The current incumbent in the role of 007 is, of course, Daniel Craig, who has spoken many times about how much of an inspiration Connery has been for his own take on Ian Fleming’s super-spy. Following the news of the actor’s death, Craig released a statement paying tribute to his forebear via Variety. Craig, the sixth performer to play Bond, praised Connery’s “wit and charm” and enormous influence on modern filmmaking.

“It is with such sadness that I heard of the passing of one of the true greats of cinema,” Craig said. “Sir Sean Connery will be remembered as Bond and so much more. He defined an era and a style. The wit and charm he portrayed on screen could be measured in mega watts; he helped create the modern blockbuster. He will continue to influence actors and film-makers alike for years to come. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones. Wherever he is, I hope there is a golf course.”

James Bond Sean Connery

Connery was first cast as Bond for 1962’s Dr. No, and a worldwide sensation was born. He continued to play the character four more times until he stepped away, leaving George Lazenby to replace him in 1969. Following Lazenby departing after just one movie, Connery was coaxed back to appear in 1971’s Diamonds Are Forever. This was to be his final official turn as 007, though he did reprise the role in the unofficial (i.e. not made by EON Productions) Never Say Never Again in 1983.

Sir Roger Moore, who passed away in 2017, succeeded Connery in 1973, with Timothy Dalton replacing him in 1987. Pierce Brosnan took over in 1995 before Craig was cast in 2006. Craig currently stands as the longest-serving James Bond but will soon vacate the gig with No Time to Die, confirmed to be his final turn in the role, which is scheduled to hit theaters next April. But the whole journey couldn’t have started without Sean Connery.

The Internet Pays Tribute To James Bond Icon Sir Sean Connery

The Internet Pays Tribute To James Bond Icon Sir Sean Connery

Sad news broke today, as it was announced that Sir Sean Connery has died at the age of 90. The actor was one of the biggest movie stars around for generations, stretching from his breakout role as James Bond in 1962’s Dr. No to his final film appearance in 2003’s The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

After playing 007 six times (seven, if you count the unofficial Never Say Never Again), that’s obviously the role that’s probably most attached to him, but he’s also fondly remembered for his acclaimed performances in the likes of The Hunt for the Red October, The Rock and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Not to mention he won an Oscar for his turn in The Untouchables.

As his work is beloved by multiple generations, then, the internet is full of tributes to the great man today and here are just a few of Sean Connery’s many fans who are paying their respects on Twitter…

2020 has done it again.

The most charismatic Bond.

There’s a lot of love for The Rock going around today.

Not to mention his turn as Dr. Henry Jones Snr. in Indy 3…

… And Connery’s role in The Hunt for the Red October.

James Bond Sean Connery

Well put.

Thank you for the magic, Sir Sean.

Those in the filmmaking industry who’ve been inspired by Connery also spoke up, including Baby Driver director Edgar Wright.

And Clerks helmer Kevin Smith, who touched on something many people are probably feeling right now – that Connery’s work connected them to their parents or grandparents.

Wolverine star Hugh Jackman was also devastated by the icon’s loss.

Connery had been living in the Bahamas since his retirement from acting and his family revealed in a statement that he had been ill for some time and passed away peacefully during his sleep surrounded by his loved ones.

Whether it’s from James Bond or Indiana Jones or The Rock or any of his other iconic movies, Sir Sean Connery’s legacy will be felt for a very long time to come and he’ll be missed by millions.

Thor: Love And Thunder Theory Explains Why Jane Foster Gets Cancer

Thor: Love And Thunder Theory Explains Why Jane Foster Gets Cancer

Natalie Portman recently let slip that her character will be battling cancer in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder just like her comic counterpart. But according to a new theory, Taika Waititi could explore this aspect of Jane Foster’s Goddess of Thunder in a different manner.

The next chapter in the story of Thor will have him face his ultimate challenge as Odinson. In the Marvel comics, the God of Thunder becomes unworthy of Mjolnir, and so loses his powers. The hammer finds a new owner in Jane Foster, who takes up the mantle of Thor. As it’s been proven, though, Waititi always takes the unexpected road with his creative decisions. So, it’s still early days to speculate how the plot will adapt the story for the big screens.

Now, as Portman herself recently revealed, her Mighty Thor will also be dealing with cancer. In the comic books, the character is already battling the disease as a hereditary condition. But in this upcoming flick, the writers may reverse the cause and effect. After all, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor has said on more than one occasion that mortals cannot wield Asgardian weapons.

The new MCU tie-in book, The Wakanda Files, makes this even more viable. As Shuri explains in one of her logs about Odinson, “The psychical effects of the weapon on a mere mortal could be catastrophic.”

I know what you’re thinking. though. If that’s the case, how did Captain America came out of the final battle in Endgame unscathed? Well, you should consider that Steve Rogers overwent a complete physical transformation thanks to the super-soldier serum, whereas Jane is a normal human being.

At any rate, Thor: Love and Thunder‘s director may decide to take the story down a different direction altogether. As such, it’s a long wait ahead until February 11th, 2022 when we’ll be able to see for ourselves as the film hits theaters all around the world.

Jamie Lee Curtis Says Halloween Kills Is A Masterpiece

Jamie Lee Curtis Says Halloween Kills Is A Masterpiece

Even though the movie isn’t arriving on the big screen for another year, the Halloween Kills hype train continues to roll on. A new teaser trailer was released as part of the online Blumfest event, timed to coincide with the titular holiday and spookiest day of the year. The footage has only made the wait all the more frustrating, but for obvious marketing purposes there’s no other time for it to be released.

The unlikely duo of David Gordon Green and Danny McBride did a phenomenal job with their 2018 hybrid of sequel and reboot, and the franchise scored the best reviews it had seen since John Carpenter’s classic original 40 years previously, while fans flocked to the theater in huge numbers to see the return of Michael Myers, with box office takings also reaching a comfortable franchise high.

Jamie Lee Curtis has starred in a few disappointing Halloween movies in her time, but the legendary scream queen is adamant that Halloween Kills will build on the success of its predecessor, and even went so far as to call the sequel a masterpiece.

“What we were seeing around the country of the power, of the rage of voices, big groups of people coming together enraged at the set of circumstances, that’s what the movie is. The movie is about a mob. And so it’s very interesting because it takes on what happens when trauma infects an entire community. And we’re seeing it everywhere with the Black Lives Matter movement. We’re seeing it in action and Halloween Kills weirdly enough, dovetailed onto that, proceeded it, it was written before that occurred, but then of course, so when you see it, it’s a seething group of people moving through the story as a big angry group, it’s really, really, really intense. It’s a masterpiece.”

Horror movies generally aren’t regarded as social parables packed with deeper meanings and subtext, but it seems that the script has turned out to be inadvertently timely given recent events, something that could add some more bite to the plot instead of following the standard slasher formula that’s been done to death a thousand times over.

All signs point to Halloween Kills being a bigger, badder and better effort than the first installment, and luckily producer Jason Blum has confirmed that it will hit theaters as scheduled next October no matter what happens in the meantime.

Green Lantern Show Reportedly Features Black Female Lantern In Lead Role

Green Lantern Show Reportedly Features Black Female Lantern In Lead Role

Warner Bros. will be hoping that the in-development Green Lantern series set to air exclusively on HBO Max will finally replace the infamous Ryan Reynolds box office bomb as the first point of reference when people think about the intergalactic law enforcers. The studio announced a big screen reboot six years ago that never made any sort of headway, and with their new streaming service focusing heavily on DC content to draw in subscribers, hopes will be high for the show.

The next iteration of Green Lantern isn’t entirely independent of the blockbuster that Reynolds has spent the better part of a decade mocking at every opportunity though, with Geoff Johns producing along with Arrowverse creators Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim, both of whom took a writing credit on Martin Campbell’s $200 million disaster.

To differentiate the HBO Max series as much as possible, Green Lantern is much more of an ensemble piece that will spread the focus among the various members of the Corps, with some major fan favorites already confirmed. However, the latest reports are indicating that the show is set to introduce a brand new character that doesn’t hail from the comic books at all.

Bree Jarta is said to be a black female Lantern who has a human father and an alien mother, so she looks humanoid but was raised in outer space by an advanced civilization. She’s also set to be partnered up with the more maverick Guy Gardner in the upcoming small screen exclusive, and there will no doubt be plenty of friction generated by the two different personalities if Green Lantern ends up adopting the typical procedural approach, one that just happens to be set against an expansive sci-fi backdrop.

Marvel’s Reportedly Reached Out To Hugh Jackman About Wolverine Return

Marvel’s Reportedly Reached Out To Hugh Jackman About Wolverine Return

At this stage, Hugh Jackman is going to be continually linked with reprising his career-defining role as Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe until someone else is cast as the mutton-chopped mutant. Despite reiterating on numerous occasions that he was done with the claws, speculation has persisted that Kevin Feige might be able to tempt him to return for one last outing.

Jackman’s retirement has always been tinged with a hint of regret on the part of both him and the fans, after he admitted that he would have definitely played Wolverine in the MCU and gladly faced off with the franchise’s established roster of heroes if only Disney’s takeover of Fox had happened a couple of years earlier. As it stands, the 52 year-old got to bow out in pretty spectacular fashion anyway, with Logan widely regarded as one of the finest comic book movies ever made.

However, a recent screenshot posted online by insider Daniel Richtman makes it look as though Marvel have reached out to the Prisoners star with an offer, although no further details are available. Jackman has been heavily linked with a fan-pleasing cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness so that an appearance in the MCU can be checked off the wish-list, and you can see the image in question below.

The veracity of the screenshot has yet to be determined, but it would hardly be a surprise to find out that Marvel Studios were trying to tie Jackman down for a cameo, especially with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness set to start shooting imminently. However, fans probably shouldn’t get their hopes up too much about Wolverine debuting in the MCU as soon as March 2022.
