A Jurassic World Live-Action TV Series Could Happen

A Jurassic World Live-Action TV Series Could Happen

Dinosaurs stomped back onto the internet a few weeks ago when a pre-Jurassic World 3 short film hit Ethernet cables across the globe. People seemed to enjoy it well enough, certainly more than Fallen Kingdom, but more on that later.

The short, titled “Battle at Big Rock,” brought up questions of a possible live-action Jurassic show. And actually, a fan brought that question up to someone surprising. During a live screening/Q&A of Jurassic World, director Colin Trevorrow was asked about if a dino-series was in the works, and the Director Who Never Smiles gave as glorious of a non-answer as one could expect:

“If the audience demands [other live-action stories], we will provide.”

So, there you have it: it’s possible, but nothing official yet.

After watching “Battle at Big Rock,” I’m not convinced that a Jurassic sitcom would be a good idea. You can only get attacked by dinos so many times before it gets repetitive. I’d rather see Dino Crisis remade than a continuation of this fossil of a series. Plus, we’re already digging up the old cast members to presumably be eaten off, so honestly, what’s the point?

Also, Fallen Kingdom was, and I mean no hyperbole by this whatsoever, the absolute worst mainstream wide release I’ve seen in theaters since Epic Movie. A totally abysmal experience. A film that thought we, the audience, were laughably stupid. I’m not mad about it, but it’s just, like, how the heck does stuff like that get approved?

Ah well. Colin Trevorrow has shown that in small bursts he can make effective pieces. Will bringing him back for Jurassic World 3 be a good thing, though? I guess the over a billion dollars the first one made can’t be argued with.

Star Wars Just Revealed The Franchise’s First Openly Gay Couple

Star Wars Just Revealed The Franchise’s First Openly Gay Couple

Star Wars Resistance has been confirmed to feature the saga’s first ever openly gay couple. Though there have been LGBT+ characters in expanded media such as novels – check out Star Wars: Aftermath, for example – there haven’t been any gay relationships in the saga on screen to date. Fans probably couldn’t have predicted who the first SW gay couple would be, though, as it’s a pair of aliens resembling a pig and an owl.

Exec producers Athena Portillo, Justin Ridge and Brandon Auman spoke about Resistance – the Disney animated series that’s mostly aimed at a younger audience than The Clone Wars and Rebels – on the Coffee with Kenobi podcast recently and it was Ridge who spilled the beans on Flix and Orka, loveable comic relief characters who man the Office of Acquisitions in the Colossus station.

“I think it’s safe to say they’re an item, absolutely. They’re absolutely a gay couple and we’re proud of that. We love Flix and Orka.”

Of course, a lot of fans are hoping that Flix and Orka aren’t the only Star Wars gay couple we’ll get this year. It’d be nice to have a human couple in live-action, for instance. Yes, I’m talking about Finn and Poe. There’s been a lot of speculation that the pair’s friendship could become something more, something which both John Boyega and Oscar Isaac have fueled as well. We’ll have to see if anything comes of all the talk when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits cinemas this December, though.

As for Star Wars Resistance, the second and final season – which takes place in between The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker – is set to premiere on Disney Channel on October 6th.

Marvel Reportedly Still Wants John Krasinski For Fantastic Four

Marvel Reportedly Still Wants John Krasinski For Fantastic Four

Now that Marvel Studios finally have the rights to the Fantastic Four in the wake of the Fox takeover, the superhero team will be one of Kevin Feige’s top priorities. We likely won’t see them on-screen as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a few years yet though, which is definitely a good thing, as this is one project that Marvel need to get absolutely right. After all, the Fantastic Four haven’t exactly had the best of luck so far, with all four previous movies featuring the characters not enjoying the greatest reputations.

When the MCU’s Fantastic Four movie officially enters production, one of the major discussion points will be the casting of the four major roles. As is the case with any big comic book blockbuster, speculation and fan-casting suggestions are already doing the rounds online, with one of the most prominent rumors concerning the potential casting of John Krasinski as Reed Richards.

The actor has been linked to the role several times in the past, along with his wife Emily Blunt, and it seems as if Marvel are still keen on talking to him about the role, according to Cosmic Book News. The outlet goes on to say that Reed Richards could act as Peter Parker’s new science mentor as well following the demise of Tony Stark, with Avengers Tower repurposed into the Baxter Building, which also creates a simple way to introduce the Fantastic Four into the MCU.

John Krasinski would be a solid choice for Mr. Fantastic if offered the role, and would likely be keen to sign up to the franchise having come close to being cast as Captain America almost a decade ago. However, one potential drawback could be his other commitments, with A Quiet Place launching his directorial career to a new level, as well as his role as the star and executive producer of Amazon’s Jack Ryan. Not to mention that our own sources have told us that while Marvel is indeed interested in The Office star, they’re also considering casting a POC as Reed Richards, which would rule Krasinski out.

In any case, casting announcements for the Fantastic Four will no doubt be a long way off, but this will definitely be one to keep a close eye on.
