Familiar Faces Return In First Fear The Walking Dead Season 5 Trailer

Familiar Faces Return In First Fear The Walking Dead Season 5 Trailer

The Walking Dead season 9 might be ending tonight, but the good news is that TWD fans won’t be forced to wait all summer before there’s more post-apocalyptic goodness on their screens. Fear the Walking Dead is set to return for its fifth season in early June and the first trailer for the new run is now here to give us a taste of what awaits us when the spinoff series makes a comeback.

Going by what we see above, season 5 will pick up soon after the last season left off. Morgan Jones, who joined the show from TWD, is now very much the head of the group and is leading them on an altruistic mission of helping out those who are in need or lost. Lennie James’ character might have others’ best interests at heart, but it’s a hash world out there and Morgan and co. will soon encounter some new threats and challenges.

There is good news, though. The trailer reveals that Ruben Blades will return to the show as Daniel Salazar, who was last seen in the season 3 finale, which left his fate up in the air. What’s more, the promo also gives us our first look at Austin Amelio on the show. The former Walking Dead star will be following Lennie James over to the spinoff from the parent series as ex-Savior Dwight makes his way south.

For more, here’s the official plot summary:

“Heading into season 5 of Fear the Walking Dead, the group’s mission is clear: locate survivors and help make what’s left of the world a slightly better place. With dogged determination, Morgan Jones leads the group with a philosophy rooted in benevolence, community and hope. Each character believes that helping others will allow them to make up for the wrongs of their pasts.

But trust won’t be easily earned. Their mission of helping others will be put to the ultimate test when our group finds themselves in unchartered territory, one which will force them to face not just their pasts but also their fears. It is only through facing those fears that the group will discover an entirely new way to live, one that will leave them forever changed.”

Other cast changes include Alexa Nisenson being promoted from recurring to regular for her role as Charlie. Karen David is also signing up in a regular role to play someone named Grace.

Fear the Walking Dead returns to AMC on Sunday, June 2nd. In the meantime, let us know your thoughts on the season 5 trailer in the comments section down below.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix Producer Says Disney Deal Isn’t Why The Franchise Is Ending

X-Men: Dark Phoenix Producer Says Disney Deal Isn’t Why The Franchise Is Ending

This June’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set to be the final entry in, if not the whole franchise, then at least the mainline X-Men movie series. With Disney having taken over Fox and Marvel Studios reclaiming the rights to the characters, this will spell the last outing for the mutant proteges of James McAvoy’s Professor X. According to one of the producers, though, it was always the intention that Dark Phoenix wrap things up, with the decision coming from a creative standpoint long before the Disney buyout took place.

While catching up with ComicBook.com at WonderCon this weekend, producer Hutch Parker explained that the thinking with DP was to up the drama by making story developments that could not be reversed, which in turn led to the production team believing that it was the correct point to call it a day. As Parker says, Dark Phoenix became a “natural culmination” of the series.

“You know, we did, not for the reasons that would seem to be the case now, but in the sense that we felt like we were completing certain emotional arguments. We were completing certain emotional ideas. And in trying to take the story further, it dictated we make certain choices from which we couldn’t come back.

You know, Raven’s death, certain choices that, I guess for me, one of the challenges of doing the sequel to a franchise is how do you keep it fresh? How do you keep pushing forward? And I think too often we treat the ground is we play it safe and we don’t make movies that are as interesting as they should be. So we tried to free ourselves from that hesitation this time and kind of let it fly. And so in its own way, that became a kind of natural culmination.”

Whatever the reason for it, it’s kind of fitting that Dark Phoenix will be the final installment of what you might call the X-Men prequel movies. After all, the original trilogy in the franchise came to a close with an adaptation of the Phoenix saga as well, in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand. That movie also made some pretty bold decisions that made it hard to move on from, even if Days of Future Past later erased it completely from the timeline.

Presumably, Fox had some sort of plan to restart the mainline X-Men films in a fresh way after DP – though this probably would always have been Jennifer Lawrence’s final outing as Mystique. Still, now it’s not up to them, as Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will have to find a way to work mutantkind into the MCU in the next few years. Reports say that only Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool will survive the move in tact, so fans should get ready to say goodbye to the gang when Dark Phoenix hits cinemas on June 7th.

Zoe Saldana Breaks The Silence On James Gunn’s Return To Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

Zoe Saldana Breaks The Silence On James Gunn’s Return To Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

For a while there, it looked like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was going to be left on indefinite hiatus after director James Gunn was fired by Disney last summer due to a Twitter controversy. However, in a shocking move, the Mouse House rehired the filmmaker to helm the Marvel threequel movie earlier this month, a decision that was generally met with widespread support from fans.

Likewise, the Guardians themselves were clearly pleased by the rehiring, as many of them posted messages on social media. However, none of them have publicly commented on the situation since. Until now, that is.

Gamora actress Zoe Saldana is the first to break silence as she was asked by ET Online for her thoughts on Gunn’s reinstatement. Though she didn’t say much, the star revealed that she’s “proud” of both Gunn and Disney for making what she feels to be the right choice.

“I’m proud of him. I’m happy that he’s coming back. I’m so proud of Disney, actually, that all the leaders right now behind that big corporation decided to lead by example, and spreading the word and the message of redemption is important.”

Following Gunn’s firing in July 2018, Saldana, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista and the rest of the cast signed an open letter calling for the studio to reverse the move. At first, it seemed their letter hadn’t had any impact, as Disney CEO Alan Horn continued to stand by his decision. Reports have stated that Horn met with Gunn again following the firing, however, and was impressed with the director’s conduct. This was enough to convince him that the filmmaker deserved a second chance and the result was Guardians 3 being back in the works.

Not that it’ll be here too soon, though. At the moment, Gunn’s working on The Suicide Squad for DC. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is then expected to shoot in early 2021, before it hits cinemas in either 2022 or 2023.
