Fans say Ray Liotta’s swan song ‘Cocaine Bear’ destined for Oscar greatness

The world lost a national treasure earlier this year when the late, great Goodfellas actor Ray Liotta passed away. But his posthumous film, Cocaine Bear, is already getting a lot of buzz as a worthy swan song and maybe even an Oscar contender.

Cocaine Bear is the over-the-top dark comedy coming to theaters next year that focuses on a black bear who consumes cocaine and then goes on a rampage. It is inspired by a true story of a bear who ate 75 pounds of cocaine from a crashed drug runner’s plane in the forests of Georgia in 1985.

One thing Gunn has already hinted at on social media about what could be in store for the shared universe is Kingdom Come, since he recently changed his banner on Mastadon to an image by that comic’s illustrator, Alex Ross.

Complaints of ‘woke nonsense’ in ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ trailer get reasonably roasted

Complaints of ‘woke nonsense’ in ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ trailer get reasonably roasted

First it was Chris Pratt’s Mario, now it’s “woke nonsense.” Twitter finds a fault in everything, whether it be deserving of the criticism or not. Following the release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie official trailer, fans were in awe of the character designs, world-building and stand-out voice performances from the likes of Jack Black and Anya Taylor-Joy. There were heaps of references to the Super Mario game series, including the inclusion of the Mushroom Kingdom, Warp Pipes, Tanooki Mario and the Fire Flowers. However, it wasn’t any of these things that amped up the nostalgia more than the Mario Kart reference.

In the final seconds of the trailer, we see Mario — driving his four-wheel kart — land on a model of Rainbow Road, the infamous Mario Kart level (notorious for being one of the most difficult), accompanied by the likes of Peach, Toad, Donkey Kong and others. It’s a minor moment in the grand scheme of the trailer, which offers a lot for audiences to unpack, but it’s still managed to get the internet talking. Specifically, it led to one Twitter user — whether it be a joke or not — complaining about the “woke pride flag nonsense” that Rainbow Road represents. Yeah…

A husband-and-wife duo’s ludicrously deranged horror sensation is already destined for cult status

People tend to formulate an opinion that the sanctity of marriage creates familiarity with one’s existence, leading to a state of formulaic domestic bliss that pumps the brakes on such trivialities as passion and creativity. Evidently, nobody bothered to tell Deadstream creators Vanessa and Joseph Winter.

Putting their heads together, the husband-and-wife duo co-wrote, co-directed, co-produced, and co-edited the found footage horror sensation, with Joseph also composing the score and playing the lead role of Shawn. Already dubbed “Evil Dead II for Gen Z,” the ludicrous blend of gross-out gore, jump scares, and belly laughs has been heralded as an instant cult classic, and it’s not a sentiment anyone on a recent Reddit thread is ready to disagree with.

Chris Pratt isn’t the only voice receiving complaints after new ‘Super Mario Bros. Movie’ trailer

Chris Pratt isn’t the only voice receiving complaints after new ‘Super Mario Bros. Movie’ trailer

The biggest sore spot for the majority of The Super Mario Bros Movie was the choice to cast Chris Pratt as the titular character, but the internet may have found a new public enemy number one in the voice.

She might be a modern critical darling, but the masses are far from sold on Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach. The Queen’s Gambit star has enjoyed an excellent few years since breakout performance in The Witch, but she’s not been able to convince fans she’s the right woman for the job of Peach.

It’s here, folks! The long-awaited second trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie has landed.

In the last few months, we’ve had ample content for the upcoming CGI live-action movie, which draws inspiration from the long-running Super Mario Bros. video game series. Last month, Nintendo unveiled the first look at Chris Pratt’s Mario, Jack Black’s Bowser, and Keegan Michael-Key’s Toad.

‘Harry Potter’ star would have loved to ‘chill out’ with Snoop Dogg’s nightmarish Dobby

Snoop Dogg, known for being the epitome of chill, took to Twitter earlier this week to share a detailed yet nightmarish art piece of himself as Dobby the House-elf from Harry Potter, henceforth dubbed Snoop Dobby Dobb. The high-foreheaded, pointed-eared rendition of Dobby Dobb raised more than a few eyebrows, but perhaps none more than Jason Isaacs, the actor who played the House-elf’s former master, Lucius Malfoy in the movies.

In a tweet sharing Snoop Dogg’s frighteningly intricate art piece, Isaacs cemented in history the one collaboration fans of both Harry Potter and Snoop Dogg can confidently say they never saw coming.

One of the MCU’s most important heroes has barely an hour of screen time across the franchise

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is absolutely overstuffed with heroes.

Over the course of nearly 15 years and 30 films, the franchise has introduced viewers to a range of superheroes plucked directly from the pages of our favorite comic books. Many of these characters were introduced via solo flicks — or, more recently, dedicated Disney Plus series — before being incorporated into the team via a team-up flick or two.

The weakest entry in an iconic saga that deals in nothing but classics treks across the streaming desert

Every single multi-film series to have ever existed needs to have an installment ranked at the bottom of the pile, and it’s an easy distinction to make in a lot of cases given that the majority of long-running franchises contain at least one disappointment. In the case of Mad Max, though, the post-apocalyptic saga has dealt almost exclusively in classics.

Unfortunately, one of the four (with fifth chapter and maiden prequel Furiosa releasing in 2024) needs to bring up the rear, but Beyond Thunderdome is still pretty damned good in its own right. Unfortunately, it finds itself in amongst some seriously esteemed competition, with Mad Max, The Road Warrior, and Fury Road boasting Rotten Tomatoes scores of 91, 94, and 97 percent respectively.

J.K. Rowling forgets ‘Harry Potter’ lore, leaving concerns for future sequels at HBO Max

Harry Potter seems to be in for an inevitable comeback if Warner Bros. has anything to say on the matter, but its creator J.K. Rowling might not have as strong a creative grip on the franchise as she once did.

The best-selling novelist is infamous these days for a very different reason, but even before setting her career prospects on fire with insensitive comments toward the LGBTQ+ community, Rowling would provoke the ire of Potterheads by constantly changing established Harry Potter lore on social media, of all places.

Depending entirely on who you ask, Black Adam is either an unmitigated disaster or a minor triumph, and that extends to star and producer Dwayne Johnson.

The A-list leading man chimed in when it was pointed out that his long-gestating DCU debut had been crushed by Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which earned more in a matter of days than Black Adam had in a month. It still hasn’t managed to cross $400 million at the global box office, either, which isn’t a good look for a comic book adaptation with a $200 million price tag.

Ryan Reynolds’ most underrated movie is a jet-black horror where he plays against type, and that’s not a coincidence

Ryan Reynolds’ most underrated movie is a jet-black horror where he plays against type, and that’s not a coincidence

We’re not here to argue with the methods behind Ryan Reynolds‘ success, and we’re not even talking about the business empire that’s seen him spread his wings into soccer team, mobile service provider, gin, and marketing company ownership. No, we’re referring to the well-known fact the actor and producer has a habit of playing himself almost every time you see him onscreen.

To be fair, if we were as handsome, charming, quick-witted, sardonic, and capable of deadpan delivery like Reynolds, we’d probably lean into it, too. And yet, there’s not a chance it’s anything remotely resembling a coincidence that arguably the most underrated entry in his filmography, and perhaps his single greatest performance outside of Buried, turns that notion on its head.

Review: ‘Disenchanted’ is not the sequel that we wanted, but it’s there

Disney isn’t afraid to ask “what happens after happily ever after?”. The studio has been doing it for more than two decades with other fairytales such as Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, and Frozen, just to name a few. So when Disney announced that it would be releasing Disenchanted, a sequel to the 2007 film Enchanted, some fans wondered if this was necessary, especially since the opener was released 15 years ago. But in the end, it’s here and available to stream on Disney Plus.

Disenchanted is a Disney film about life after happily ever after, and how it’s not as we expected it to be. It starts with Pip the Chipmunk giving a recap of Enchanted to his two children. They asked for more, so he told them the story of Disenchanted, a tale about life after the events of the original.

DC boss James Gunn offers impatient fans a reminder you can’t fix a broken franchise in 3 weeks

It was a bold move for James Gunn to take his first step onto the corporate ladder by agreeing to take over DC Studios as co-CEO alongside Peter Safran, because the franchise has been on a shaky nail for a long time.

That’s not to say it’s ever come close to imploding and being discarded entirely, but there’s been so many stops and starts, canceled and abandoned projects, in-fighting, social media vitriol, and warring factions both in the boardroom and on the internet that it was beginning to feel like nobody wanted the job in the first place after the search for DC’s own Kevin Feige figure dragged on and on and on.

Latest Sci-Fi News: Chris Hemsworth reveals the real reason his ‘Star Trek’ return never happened as shocking ‘Doctor Who’ spinoff rumors surface

Welcome back, sci-fi fans — have we got some shocking news for you today! Paramount has been trying to make Star Trek 4 happen for years, preferably with Chris Hemsworth back as Kirk’s dad, but the Australian star has now revealed the one reason why this couldn’t, or maybe shouldn’t, happen. Elsewhere, the Doctor Who universe looks to be expanding exponentially in some very surprising ways, if the latest rumors are to be believed. Set your faces to stun, folks…

Chris Hemsworth explains why he can’t come back for Star Trek 4, and he’s got a point

With the movie having lost yet another director, Star Trek 4 is once again stuck in a Khan-like stasis. Whenever it does eventually get here, though, it sounds like Hemsworth’s George Kirk won’t be a part of it. When opening up to Josh Horowitz about why he turned down the opportunity to return, Hemsworth admitted that he couldn’t get past the idea of why — even once you get around the idea of his resurrection — George would be so much older than when we last saw him in 2009’s Star Trek. He’s got a point.

Latest Fantasy News: ‘Stranger Things’ fans come up with a perfect series ending as ‘The Rings of Power’ finds more acclaim on the internet

Stranger Things fans are, for lack of a better word, twiddling their thumbs until the fifth and final season concludes this ambitious story somewhere down the line. As with every other beloved franchise out there that not necessarily overstays its welcome, the Strangers also have a few ideas about the ultimate resolution, and it doesn’t necessarily bode well for the main heroine.

Meanwhile, House of the Dragon fans have just realized that its creator, George R.R. Martin, is actually encouraging folks to pick sides in the Greens vs. Blacks conflict, though for him, this has more to do with understanding the nuances of history’s conflicted narrative rather than feeding the furnaces of endless social media debates. If that conveniently happens to bolster the story’s reputation, well, we’re just going to have to accept that side effect.

An action icon’s unexpected detour into unhinged horror remains cursed by its polarizing conclusion

If you’re the writer, director, editor, and fight choreographer behind one of the greatest action movies ever made and its phenomenal sequel, how do you possibly follow that up given the weight of expectation placed on your shoulders? If you’re Gareth Evans, you confuse the hell out of everyone and make Apostle.

The Welsh filmmaker’s pair of bruising Indonesian calling cards put him on the map as one of the hottest directorial talents well worth keeping an eye on, so a period-set folk horror with heavy shades of The Wicker Man that released exclusively on Netflix wasn’t exactly what you’d call an obvious next port of call.

A generation refuses to forgive a deliberately misleading fantasy that reduced them to emotional rubble

A generation refuses to forgive a deliberately misleading fantasy that reduced them to emotional rubble

It’s rare for any movie to reduce an entire generational to a smoldering pile of emotional rubble, never mind a modestly-budgeted $17 million fantasy backed by the might of the Disney machine, but audiences of a certain age will never forget the first time they saw Bridge to Terabithia.

Matters weren’t helped by a deliberately misleading marketing campaign that promised a fun-filled, whimsical time at the theater to watch two engaging young leads traverse a richly-detailed world populated full of magical creatures. But that’s not what the film was. Not even close. So much so, in fact, that the filmmakers and screenwriter David Paterson publicly disavowed the approach to selling Bridge to Terabithia.
