Top 10 most memorable Alan Arkin movie roles ranked

The world of entertainment lost an icon in the death of Oscar-winner Alan Arkin. The 89-year-old, whose career spanned multiple decades, was as known for his dry humor in roles like Edward Scissorhands as he was turning in genuinely emotional performances, such as Little Miss Sunshine, the 2006 film that saw him win the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award.

The Brooklyn-born great-grandfather was adored by his family, according to a statement from Arkin’s children — Adam, Matthew, and Anthony — who called him “a uniquely talented force of nature, both as an artist and a man,” according to ABC News.

How to watch all Children of the Corn movies in order

If you’re a true horror fan, the Children of the Corn films may already be a staple in your collection. Revered by some, ridiculed by others, but impossible to ignore, the series’s terrifying appeal has won millions of viewers worldwide. Given that Children of the Corn is adapted from a short tale by the great Stephen King, it should come as no surprise that the movie has attracted a vast fan base that enjoys King’s mastery of writing supernatural and psychological horror.

Gatlin, Nebraska, a fictional town in the middle of nowhere, initially hosts a sequence of terrifying events in this franchise. The films follow a group of children, led by a young preacher named Isaac, as they slaughter the town’s adults as a sacrifice to a sinister figure called “He Who Walks Behind the Rows.” The youngsters believe the monster lives in the cornfields and commands them to commit heinous acts.

Major accomplishment: LGBTQ viewers take a jab at Disney after Netflixs Nimona finally makes it to release

Major accomplishment: LGBTQ viewers take a jab at Disney after Netflixs Nimona finally makes it to release

It’s a movie that had the odds stacked against it and came out swinging for the fences. Nimona was released about a week ago in the U.K. and is now streaming on Netflix to the sheer delight of the LGBTQ+ community, members of whom are letting Disney know how they feel about the company’s decision to put production on hold back in 2021.

Blue Sky Studios had about 75% of Nimona completed when Disney shut the studio down amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, and instead of finishing it, Disney chose to let the team’s animation and work go to waste. This was a setback for the LGBTQ+ community given that the film was to feature the first gay leading roles and same-sex kiss in an animated feature.

Latest Disney News: Can Disney turn centenary celebration into positive news for shareholders?

Latest Disney News: Can Disney turn centenary celebration into positive news for shareholders?

Hello cool Aristocats, it’s time for today’s Disney news roundup! As most Disney lovers know by now, the company began celebrating their 100th anniversary starting in January and will continue to do so until the actual anniversary date of October 17. The festivities, officially titled Disney100, involve new attractions like Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway coming to Disneyland California, as well as eight classic films returning to the box office for a temporary theatrical re-release; while the celebration is no doubt spectacular, is it enough to help the company get back on track with shareholders?

It’s no secret that Disney hasn’t been doing as great in the box office this year, and shareholders aren’t too happy with that, nor are they thrilled Disney’s streaming services are losing subscribers and generally under-performing. While a bad box office run isn’t unprecedented — most recently, Disney had a bad run from 2010 to 2013 — it’s becoming increasingly more obvious that it’ll take more than releasing movies like Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny to pull the Mouse House out of this predicament.

Every Indiana Jones MacGuffin and their real-world connection explained

Now that everyone’s favorite adventuring archeologist is once again on the big screen with Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, let’s take a look at all of the MacGuffins in the series and their real-world connections.

Each Indiana Jones film features an ancient artifact of some kind that holds some supernatural power — usually one coveted by Nazis. In each adventure, it is up to our roguish tomb-defiler, Indiana Jones, to rise to the occasion to defeat this world-destroying threat and prove himself the hero.

Ron Howard admits he did this after seeing Star Wars in 1977

In 1973, Ron Howard starred in the George Lucas hit American Graffiti. In 1977, he went to see Lucas’ new film — a movie you may have heard of called Star Wars — during its opening weekend. What Howard said he did afterward shows how big of an impression the film made on him.

In the 3rd episode of the 2022 Disney Plus docuseries, Light & Magic, Howard briefly describes the moment. Earlier in the series, the future director admitted that when he was cast to play Steve Bolander in American Graffiti, he had no idea what the word “graffiti” meant. Perhaps the biggest disappointment in that excellent film is that there is actually no graffiti.

The 10 best archaeologists in movies TV and games ranked

The 10 best archaeologists in movies TV and games ranked

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is finally in theaters, offering the long-awaited fifth entry in the immortal saga of the eponymous adventuring archaeologist. And yet while there are only five official Indy movies, the cinematic might of Dr. Henry Jones Jr. has cast a long shadow across not just movies, but all forms of media. In short, Indiana Jones made archaeology a cool job for a hero to have.

There are various tomb-raiding characters in films, TV, and games who very much follow in Indy’s footsteps, being larger-than-life swashbuckling sorts who go on globe-trotting adventures. Other fictional archaeologists may be slightly closer to fact or else their profession is just one element of their persona – so much so that you might just forget what they do for a day-job in the first place.

Star Wars Oscar winner was enraged about not working on Empire Strikes Back

Star Wars Oscar winner was enraged about not working on Empire Strikes Back

The original Star Wars was groundbreaking for many reasons, most of all because of its special effects. It even earned an Academy Award for five people at Industrial Light & Magic (George Lucas’ special effects company). Yet, one of those five, who was the main special effects supervisor, was not invited back to work on the sequel. Here’s the furious reason why he was left behind.

First of all, I should explain that all of this is revealed in the highly overlooked 2022 Disney Plus docuseries Light & Magic, which I decided to write frequently about in the coming weeks since it has many reveals about the Star Wars franchise.

Latest Marvel News: Secret Invasion throws shade on Captain Marvel hate as near record-low viewership doesnt bode well for Disney Plus

Latest Marvel News: Secret Invasion throws shade on Captain Marvel hate as near record-low viewership doesnt bode well for Disney Plus

Needless to say, most of the chatter in Marvel-land today sprung from the arrival of Secret Invasion‘s second episode, which perhaps didn’t hit quite as hard as last week’s premiere but nonetheless dropped another huge bombshell and may have just delivered the MCU’s most graphic scene ever. It’s just a shame that it’s being watched by a mere fraction of those that have tuned in for previous Disney Plus shows from the House of Ideas…

Secret Invasion weaksauce opening viewing figures don’t exactly inspire confidence for Marvel’s next batch of Disney Plus shows

The numbers have been crunched, and Secret Invasion officially has the second weakest opening ever to a Marvel Disney Plus series, with its first episode failing to scrape past 1 million views in the United States across its first five days on streaming. While it did better than Ms. Marvel, this pales in comparison to the 2.5 million that watched Loki‘s opener over the same period. Is this a sign that those Marvel titles with less of a cultural cache are doomed to a similar fate when they arrive in 2024? Should we start praying now for the likes of Echo and Wonder Man?

Michael Keaton was ready to film Batman in late 1988 opposite his female lead, Sean Young, but then that quickly changed just days before filming.

Young, who had starred in Blade Runner as the female lead opposite Harrison Ford, was cast in the role of Vicki Vale and spent five weeks in pre-production. Shortly before filming began, Young was practicing a hobby of hers, which led to a minor accident that changed the course of her career.

Vanna Whites rancid retro romantic comedy has already bombed her Hollywood career after Wheel of Fortune

Vanna White’s contract with Wheel of Fortune will be up by the end of the 2023-24 season and if some concerning rumors are to be believed, she might be the next to bid farewell to the show after Pat Sajak. While she has many other things going on, in case anyone is expecting her to revert back to her Hollywood career, here is your homework — watch Goddess of Love and let us know if you survive to tell the tale.

Before becoming the constant and MVP of Wheel of Fortune — and even during it — White starred in a handful of films and TV shows. While none of them are particularly memorable, her role as the deity Venus in the 1988 television movie Goddess of Love — a fantasy romantic comedy — deserves a position on the top shelves of the worst of cinema.

Black Panther shows why Indiana Jones catchphrase has a totally different meaning today

Black Panther shows why Indiana Jones catchphrase has a totally different meaning today

On the eve of the release of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, it can be an intriguing thought experiment to contemplate how the legacy of Harrison Ford’s titular character has transformed with the times over the years.

Nowadays, there’s a greater cultural awareness about the fact that museum artifacts in Western countries can carry with them an unsavory colonial history if they are from a different nation of origin that wasn’t necessarily a focus in the original Indiana Jones trilogy. An example of pop culture’s greater awareness of this history can be found in 2018’s Black Panther — a billion-dollar-grossing film worldwide — in which Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger asks a museum curator in regard to a fictitious artifact on display, “How do you think your ancestors got these?”

David Corenswets Superman: Legacy fate was foreshadowed years ago by a Tony-winning Pitch Perfect star

David Corenswets Superman: Legacy fate was foreshadowed years ago by a Tony-winning Pitch Perfect star

At long last, James Gunn has found his Clark Kent. The head of DC Studios, who has been on the hunt for the superpowered Kansas farm boy for months, confirmed the announcement this afternoon, revealing that American actor David Corenswet will be our next Kal-El in the DCU’s Superman: Legacy.

Corenswet’s name has been lingering in the background as a contender to play the next Man of Steel for quite some time, but in reality, he was foreshadowed long before his screen tests in front of Gunn. As a matter of fact, the 29-year-old’s fate was predicted by the Tony Award-winning actor and musician Ben Platt back in 2019-2020 when he and Corenswet co-starred in TV series The Politician. Something Twitter quickly picked up on.

When it comes to Jennifer Lawrence, Miley Cyrus, and Liam Hemsworth, the three celebrities may have a complicated past when it comes to romance, though it may not go as deep as some may have assumed based Cyrus’ new music video for the song “Flowers.”

You see, while the song is thought to be about Cyrus’ ex-husband, Hemsworth, it may not be the diss track aimed at Lawrence that some might have thought. Some quick context: Lawrence and Hemsworth shared the screen together for multiple films in the Hunger Games franchise. Meanwhile, Cyrus was with Hemsworth for the majority of the 2010s, while those movies were coming out.

Latest Marvel News: The MCU adding to a $1 billion loss for Disney ups box office pressures as new The Marvels secrets send hype sky-high

Although we’ve got both Secret Invasion and Loki season 2 to entertain us in the interim, we won’t see another Marvel Studios movie in theaters until The Marvels this November. However, it had better be worth the wait for both fans and execs given that Disney is in seriously need of a major hit following a much disappointing past year for Mouse House productions. Curiously, some surprising leaked info may have just helped nudge the film in the right direction by amping up the anticipation.

The Marvels must win big at the box office after Disney loses $1 billion over the past year…

The numbers have been crunched, and Disney has lost a total of $900 million from its theatrical releases from June 2022 to June 2023. Alongside infamous Pixar disappointments like Lightyear and Elemental, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever have contributed to this, so all eyes are on The Marvels to make things right. 2019’s Captain Marvel did earn itself over $1 billion, but it remains to be seen if lightning can strike twice for Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers this fall. As luck would have it, though, the hype train is starting nice and early:

Latest Fantasy News: The crew behind The Witcher continues to live in denial as Henry Cavills final season looms

The impending premiere of The Witcher’s 3rd season is overshadowing every other fantasy property on the market.

Netflix’s attempt to bring Geralt of Rivia to the small screen will never be enough to fully shove immortal favorites like The Lord of the Rings out of conversations, but it’s sure stirring up plenty of discourse at the moment. Between its recasting of Henry Cavill — who will return as Geralt for the last time in season 3 — and its EP’s apparent ignorance regarding the backlash, there’s simply too much The Witcher drama to pass up. And that’s not even considering the truly massive shoes Liam Hemsworth will be forced to fill when he takes up the role.
