‘Spider-Man 4’ is on its way, but production has been paused

‘Spider-Man 4’ is on its way, but production has been paused

The brass at Sony are teasing another Tom Holland-led Spider-Man film as they release the animated Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse this week and put the finishing touches on next year’s finale, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spiderverse. But fans should go ahead and get their fill of cartoon Spider-people for the moment: It seems the ongoing writers’ strike has shut down work on the next live-action entry.

Per Variety, a follow-up to 2019’s massively successful Spider-Man: No Way Home is still in the works, but development is paused while the WGA strike continues, says producer Amy Pascal at the Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse premiere.

Horror fans, rejoice! ‘Terrifier 3′ is officially on its way

Horror fans, rejoice! ‘Terrifier 3′ is officially on its way

Fresh on the heels of blood-splattered extravaganza Terrifier 2 causing audiences to faint and vomit last October, the entire horror community is doing cartwheels after learning that Terrifier 3 is officially on its way. And, much like its two predecessors, the bone-chilling slasher spectacle looks to be bigger, badder — and gorier than ever before. As if we needed another reason to be completely excited about next year’s spooky season.

As reported by Deadline, the news was confirmed earlier today as distribution house The Coven is teaming up with writer/director Damien Leone to bring the much-anticipated threequel to fruition. Unfortunately, major details about the horror film — which includes cast announcements — are being kept under wraps, but that’s only increasing our excitement for the blood-stained project.

Latest Marvel News: ‘Deadpool 3’s X-Men explosion has Ryan Reynolds under pressure as ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ star admits the inevitable

Honestly, we were happy enough with Hugh Jackman coming back as Wolverine, but the latest word has it that a whole bunch of other X-Men universe veterans are returning for Deadpool 3… and it’s making Marvel fans greedy. Meanwhile, speaking of upcoming MCU projects that are folding old favorites into the franchise, Daredevil: Born Again‘s Vincent D’Onofrio has some comments about the revival series that aren’t exactly what fans want to hear, but they’re not really surprising.

Deadpool 3 might be bringing back half of Fox’s universe as it is, but X-Men fans still want more

Marvel has to be careful when promising its fans a multiverse of cameo madness in one of its projects, as we found out in Doctor Strange 2, so it’s no surprise that the increasing casting rumors around Deadpool 3 are leaving Ryan Reynolds with a to-do list that’s bigger than Colossus. After Halle Berry already teased more from Storm, reports say Famke Janssen and James Marsden could be back as Jean Grey and Cyclops as well. Which is great, of course, but by positioning the threequel as both a last hurrah for the Fox-verse and the X-Men’s entry into the MCU, Reynolds is giving himself a high bar to clear when it comes to fan expectations.

‘The Flash’ director wants Ezra Miller back for sequels despite their string of controversies

If you were hoping no one would give the internet any reason to relitigate the Ezra Miller controversy ahead of The Flash‘s opening weekend, think again: Director Andy Muschietti recently said he wants Miller to continue playing the character, despite their string of recent legal trouble stemming from reported erratic and violent behavior.

Muschietti, along with his wife and producing partner Barbara Muschietti, discussed this possibility on The Hollywood Reporter‘s The Discourse podcast. When asked whether he intended for Miller to reprise the role in any sequels the director might make for DC Studios, Andy Muschietti said, “If it happens, yes.” He elaborated:

Henry Cavill endorsing ‘The Flash’ is the superhero equivalent of being invited to your ex’s wedding

It’s insane to think that Henry Cavill was under contract as the DCU’s canonical Superman for almost 12 years, with the actor first being announced as the star of Man of Steel all the way back in January of 2011, even if he’d only go on to make four appearances before the October 2022 release of Black Adam marked the end of the line.

The actor has plenty of backers and supporters – which became more evident than ever when James Gunn confirmed he was done as the Big Blue Boy Scout as the franchise prepares to hit the big red button yet again – but his tenure as Kal-El has more often than not been dogged by bad luck.

An unfairly ignored creature feature nowhere near enough people saw ends up shipwrecked on streaming

An unfairly ignored creature feature nowhere near enough people saw ends up shipwrecked on streaming

Individually, creature features and survival horror are two of the most watchable subgenres in cinema, whether your personal preferences lean further into nail-biting tension or blood and guts. Taking the two and blending them together in a high concept tale of terror is ingenious, with J.D. Dillard’s Sweetheart more than living up to its promise.

Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a stellar critical approval rating of 93 percent, the rave reviews and enthusiastic reception would potentially lead you to believe that the movie was either a sleeper hit, a word-of-mouth favorite, or an instant cult classic. Instead, it was sent out into the wilderness with barely a marketing campaign to speak of, and fell through the cracks as a result.

Knife-wielding intruder hit with restraining order for entering Benedict Cumberbatch’s real-life Sanctum Santorum

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Doctor Strange may have plenty of protection spells in place to safeguard the Sanctum Santorum from being infiltrated or attacked, but Benedict Cumberbatch‘s real-life home couldn’t call upon any sorcery when a knife-wielding intruder trespassed on the grounds of his abode.

Per The Daily Mail, the Academy Award-nominated star, his wife, and three children were inside when Jack Bissell kicked his way through an iron gate at the front of the property, before making his way into the garden. From there, the former chef threw a plant at a wall, spat on the intercom, and even prized it from its fittings using a fish knife.

‘Magic: The Gathering,’ ‘Lord of the Rings’ crossover causes outrage over Aragorn artwork

Only less than 30 days remain until Magic The Gathering releases its Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth set, and not everyone is happy with how the trading card game showcased the artwork of one of the book’s key characters.

Leading up to the set’s release, Magic The Gathering showcased some of the art of the franchise’s characters that will be included in this trading card collection, most notably a singular copy of the one ring with text writing in the Black Speech of Sauron. Recently, another character had its art showcased — Aragorn, son of Arathorn and king of Gondor.

Latest Netflix News: Subscribers double down on their obsession with bad horror as the hate train for a ‘Stranger Things’ star comes to life

Netflix is rarely the site of good news, with the streamer continuing its questionable axing of popular shows in favor of bringing new ones in, to say nothing of its siege on password-sharing that even Blockbuster tore it to shreds over. But, even when the streaming service isn’t knee-deep in ridicule from its unpopular business practices, genuinely good news still seems to elude us.

Of course, we only mean good news from the perspective of us viewers; we’re sure Netflix couldn’t be happier that its subscribers are sinking their teeth into not just one, but two critically lambasted pieces of new horror content. As unhelpful as that is when it comes to telling Netflix what the people want, at least a Nazi-slaughtering Spaghetti Western is helping to turn that particular tide.

Latest Marvel News: The MCU’s most-wanted comeback gets shot down in flames as ‘Fantastic Four’ heats up for different reasons

Thanks to the advent of the Multiverse Saga, there isn’t a single soul alive to have appeared in a Marvel production that can 100 percent be ruled out from making a comeback.

It’s been a double-edged sword, though, one that’s allowed us to be reacquainted with plenty of old favorites, but at the same time sending the rumor mill into a perpetual state of overdrive. Unfortunately, one of the most-vaunted doesn’t appear to be on the cards, at least for now.

MCU fans are theorizing how Doctor Strange’s spell will address a giant Spider-sized plot hole

In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker had an extremely difficult decision to make, one that left most of us in tears as he said goodbye to everyone he loved. In order to fix the botched-up spell that had caused the multiverse to collide, Spider-Man and Doctor Strange cast another spell, one which resulted in everyone forgetting all about Peter Parker. Now some fans on Reddit are wondering how this is even possible.

At the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, audiences were just as shocked as Peter when his identity was outed to the entire world by Mysterio. The third film opened with him and his friends dealing with the ramifications of this, as they struggled to go about their daily lives with the complication even getting in the way of their college applications. It was all too much for Peter to deal with and so he sought the council of the sorcerer Dr. Stephen Strange.

‘The Little Mermaid’ makeup artist hits back at Ursula criticism

‘The Little Mermaid’ makeup artist hits back at Ursula criticism

The makeup designer for the live-action remake of Disney’s The Little Mermaid has hit back at criticisms over his take on the character of Ursula, played by Melissa McCarthy. Speaking with Insider, Peter Smith King contended the belief that the makeup designer for Ursula should have been queer, since the sea witch of the 1989 iteration of The Little Mermaid was inspired by the popular drag queen Divine.

“I find that very offensive,” the designer said of the criticisms. “Why can’t I do as good a job as a queer makeup artist?” Smith King went on to describe calls for Ursula to be designed by a queer artist as “ridiculous,” discouraging audiences from “put[ting] people down because they’re not what they want it to be.” Perhaps the biggest figurehead in criticisms against Smith King’s role came from RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant Kerri Colby.

‘The Mandalorian’ submitting Ahmed Best for Emmy consideration brings his ‘Star Wars’ journey full circle

Back when the Star Wars prequel trilogy released in theaters, it’s safe to say that most fans would have named Jar Jar Binks as their least-favorite character from the franchise. And the actor behind the CG creation, Ahmed Best, felt the full weight of that hatred. Disney is offering Best quite the do-over with a small role in The Mandalorian — and has even put the actor up for an Emmy nomination for his work.

On its Debut Disney website, the company has listed its offerings for Emmy consideration relating to the third season of The Mandalorian. Under the category of “Guest Actor in a Drama Series” is Best for his portrayal of live-action Jedi Knight Kelleran Beq. The character was introduced previously in Star Wars canon, but he returned in “Chapter 20: The Foundling” in a flashback as the Jedi who helped save Grogu from a burning Jedi temple.

Pixar’s next film is already pointing toward another ‘misfire’ for the Disney studio

Pixar’s next film is already pointing toward another ‘misfire’ for the Disney studio

Pixar could be looking to add to its string of lacklustre releases in recent years, as the first reviews for the studio’s upcoming film Elemental have begun trickling in. Ahead of the animated film’s release on June 15, Elemental has amassed a 57 percent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, which so far places it as the second lowest-scoring Pixar film in front of 2011’s Cars 2

Elemental is helmed by The Good Dinosaur director Peter Sohn, and stars Leah Lewis, Mamoudou Athie Wade and Catherine O’Hara, among others. The film takes place in a city where the four elements of fire, water, land, and air coexist alongside one another, with two residents from fire and water meeting to discover how much they have in common. Elemental made its debut by closing out this year’s Cannes Film Festival, though audience reactions appear to be lukewarm.

A bland spy thriller booted from Netflix that saw Ryan Reynolds’ body ‘falling apart’ breaks Alexa next

A bland spy thriller booted from Netflix that saw Ryan Reynolds’ body ‘falling apart’ breaks Alexa next

For many Ryan Reynolds fans, his career is summed up as before Deadpool and after Deadpool. While the actor did star in memorable films before playing the Merc with a Mouth, the first half of his resume is peppered with many disappointments. But now that anything he touches instantly acquires the potential to be a rousing success, even his past critical and/or commercial failures are getting a spotlight. For instance, a decade-old action film starring the actor that got bashed for its dull and often senseless screenplay has successfully managed to make Alexa rethink her existence.

The film in question is 2012’s Safe House starring Reynolds as rookie CIA agent Matt Weston who is assigned the task of guarding Denzel Washington’s master spy Tobin Frost. The duo is soon busy demolishing half the city and unsuspecting pedestrians as they drop one unnecessary and pointless action sequence after another. But despite its shortcomings and not managing to woo all critics, it did do well in terms of box office earnings. There were talks of a sequel, but thankfully, those plans were never finalized.

It joined Netflix’s massive film library towards the end of 2021. But unlike the countless titles that enjoy long-term residence on the streamer, Safe House left within mere weeks.

The director of the DCU movie everyone assumes is happening but hasn’t been announced offers a sort-of update

Warner Bros. and DC have developed a habit of announcing countless projects and then proceeding to do nothing with them before they ultimately end up being swept under the rug and forgotten about, but the opposite appears to be true when it comes to Mike Flanagan and Clayface.

While there’s officially no such thing as a movie in the works revolving around the Batman villain, various reports from industry trades and insiders have claimed it’s actively on the cards, while Flanagan has never been shy in voicing his desire to tackle the tragic antagonist in one way or another.

Netflix’s new supernatural nightmare takes an absolute pounding, but still bewitches the streamer’s Top 10

Netflix’s new supernatural nightmare takes an absolute pounding, but still bewitches the streamer’s Top 10

Netflix and horror don’t go hand-in-hand the same way the streaming service’s regular forays into crime thrillers, murder mysteries, and tales of eroticism do, even if there are a couple of notable outliers that deserve to be lauded. Tin & Tina might be a big hit right off the bat, but it hasn’t exactly been rapturously received by critics or subscribers.

The Spanish-language supernatural chiller currently holds a disastrous 17 percent audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while IMDb users have at least been more forgiving in deciding that director Rubin Stein’s biblical terror deserves a 4.9/10 score, which is still pretty terrible.

Latest Marvel News: A popular Marvel series is secretly Snap-ed as ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ new Sam Raimi problem gets a reality check

Disney Plus has been courting all the ire in the world since it decided to one-up Netflix at its own game. But just deleting beloved shows, some of which have barely spent a few months on the platform, and insulting the hard work that went into their creation wasn’t enough. The streamer just erased an acclaimed Marvel series without informing the fandom in advance, leaving fans to stumble upon the gaping hole in its wake on their own.

Meanwhile, a fresh rumor regarding Avengers: Secret Wars kickstarted another wave of displeasure only to find itself facing hard, cold facts. And just because Disney Plus stirring up a hornet’s nest while another rumor threatens to dismantle another Phase Six project isn’t enough, a new MCU theory adds ‘downright stupid’ to Doctor Strange’s already suspicious actions in the fight against Thanos.

‘Are we really going to rewrite history?’: A ‘Barbie’ detractor’s hot take triggers a wave of very heated childhood reminiscing

A Twitter user named Avery Edison started a huge debate about the new Barbie movie and its socioeconomic implications by saying only rich people could afford them, and that when people say they love Barbie they’re just saying they weren’t poor. This take is now being mocked into oblivion.

The original tweet was deleted but that’s not how things work on the Internet. Edison has spent most of the past two days in an effort to defend herself as screenshots of her tweet get bashed to the moon and back, but it’s been a hard road. Let’s take a look at the “offending” tweet that has been blamed for unnecessarily trying to trigger a discourse. This post sums up people’s feelings fairly succinctly.

‘It really was her performance’: ‘The Little Mermaid’s awed VFX supervisor shares how Halle Bailey made his work ‘so much easier’

Whether we consider the reviews praising The Little Mermaid to the moon and back or the ones airing their disappointment with its failures, one thing is consistent — Halle Bailey is, without doubt, the shining star of the film, keeping it afloat even when its problematic aspects try to bog it down. Well, we now know about her saving the plot with her expressive acting prowess. What we don’t know is that Bailey is a dream come true for every VFX artist who has to work double hard to add digital effects to films.

In a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, The Little Mermaid’s visual effects supervisor Tim Burke gave a peek behind the scenes at the complex process, which includes actors being suspended in rigs for hours, involved in adding the needed visuals to make it look like they are actually underwater. But the difficult procedure became “so much easier” for Burke and his team when it came to applying the effects to Bailey’s Ariel as she was “giving a performance and a believability.”

Why was Ursula banished from the mermaid kingdom in ‘The Little Mermaid?’

Why was Ursula banished from the mermaid kingdom in ‘The Little Mermaid?’

With The Little Mermaid now available to watch in theaters across the world, we’ve finally had one pressing question about this underwater story answered; how Ursula came to be banished from the mermaid kingdom, and why she holds so much hate for King Triton.

The 1989 animated Disney film introduced us to the villainous (and fabulous) character of Ursula (voiced by Pat Carroll). She is a sea witch with magical abilities which she uses to make contracts with the “poor unfortunate souls” that come flocking to her cauldron. The contracts, however, usually do not favor the clients, and she takes their souls as payment when they cannot fulfill their payment. The one soul we gather she wants the most of all is that of Triton, as she uses Ariel as a pawn simply to get to her father.
