Star Wars: The Bad Batch’s Rancor Wasn’t The Same One As In Return Of The Jedi

Dry those eyes and put your hankies away, as a Star Wars sob story has just been averted. Episode 5 of The Bad Batch opened with our heroes seeking out an old Jedi informant named Cid, who may be in possession of key information about the whereabouts of Fennec Shand. To get this, they were tasked with recovering Muchi, who they eventually discovered was a young Rancor (and quite cute, in her own way).

The squad was successful, though the ending left some viewers aghast when they realized its implications. The closing moments saw Clone Force 99 deliver Muchi to Bib Fortuna, Jabba the Hutt’s majordomo. It doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to put the pieces together and conclude that Muchi is the same Rancor we saw Luke Skywalker heroically kill in Return of the Jedi. Emotions happened, and feels were felt.

But, as it turns out, Muchi and the Return of the Jedi rancor are two completely different creatures. As established by Wookiepedia, the rancor Luke killed was named Pateesa and is male, whereas Muchi is female. According to the canon, Pateesa was given to Jabba as a birthday present by Bib Fortuna around the time of The Phantom Menace and trained to consume those who displeased the crime lord.

Unfortunately, while Muchi wasn’t skewered by Luke, it’s doubtful she lived a rich and fulfilling life. Animal welfare isn’t high on the agenda in Jabba’s Palace (judging by his choice of snack anyway), so she may have died off screen prior to Luke, Han and Leia’s arrival. Still, there’s a small chance that she went on to escape Bib Fortuna and lead a happy existence out in the Tatooine sand. At least that’s what I’m going to keep telling myself.

Let’s hope Star Wars: The Bad Batch drops by to check in on her from time to time.

Universal Reportedly Wants Robot Dinosaurs In Jurassic World Franchise

Looking at the Jurassic Park franchise as a whole dating back to Steven Spielberg’s classic 1993 original right up to the release of next year’s Jurassic World: Dominion, the true villain of the entire six-film series to date has been BD Wong’s Henry Wu, something that seemed unthinkable when the benevolent geneticist first appeared on our screens touting the huge breakthroughs made by John Hammond’s team.

Somewhere in between the first and fourth installments, Dr. Wu clearly got far too drunk on power. Admittedly, the creation of the Indominus Rex in Jurassic World was mandated by the boardroom, but he didn’t have to make it quite so deadly, while he showed up again in Fallen Kingdom as a black market dinosaur broker that’s continued tinkering with inter-species crossbreeds. The guy is evidently a genius having cracked the formula for reviving creatures thought extinct for millions of years, but that naturally comes with an increased ego.

Plot details for Dominion remain firmly under wraps, but we’ve heard from our sources – the same ones who told us Warner Bros. were actively inviting pitches for TV shows set in the Harry Potter universe long before it was confirmed – that Universal would like Dr. Wu to atone for his repeated mistakes by having a hand in the creation of robot dinosaurs, which would be used to battle their flesh and blood counterparts in a future Jurassic World installment to restore balance to the food chain.

Admittedly, that sounds patently ridiculous and could well see the franchise well and truly jump the shark altogether while also being more than a little reminiscent of the recent Godzilla vs. Kong, but it’s not as if Jurassic World has ever been particularly rooted in reality or genuine science either.

As per his Instagram bio, Tom Cruise has been running in movies since 1981. Perhaps the most impressive thing about the actor is his longevity, when you consider that he’s spent 35 years firmly embedded at the top of the Hollywood ladder after Top Gun first rocketed him to A-list superstardom, and at no point in the years since has he been viewed as anything other than one of the biggest and most bankable names in the industry, even when some bizarre mid-2ooos antics saw his personal reputation take a little bit of a hit.

Now, insider Daniel Richtman is reporting that Brie Larson wants to be seen as the female Tom Cruise, and yet the tipster offers no explanations as to what the hell that’s supposed to actually mean, so all we’re left with is a vague and sweeping statement that some might even view as nonsensical.

DC Reportedly Trying To Make Harley Quinn Like Deadpool

The DCEU’s plans for Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn haven’t gone exactly how the franchise or studio Warner Bros. would have hoped, although none of the blame can be placed at the actress’ feet when she’s hugely committed to the role and has done a phenomenal job so far living up to the expectations that come with bringing such a firm fan favorite into live-action.

Suicide Squad had many problems, but Harley wasn’t one of them, while the behind the scenes issues that dogged David Ayer’s antihero ensemble caused a snowball effect that saw Robbie’s planned outings in Gotham City Sirens and a spinoff opposite Jared Leto’s Joker shelved, before Birds of Prey ultimately rose from those ashes.

Cathy Yan’s blockbuster has already become a cult classic, but it flopped at the box office, so The Suicide Squad will no doubt be pivotal in determining the former Harleen Quinzell’s long term trajectory in the shared universe. James Gunn may have teased that almost everyone will die, but Robbie is taking top billing and there’s still money to be made from her association with the character, so it’s a safe bet she’ll survive.

However, we’ve now heard from our sources – the same ones who told us Ben Affleck was returning as Batman in The Flash long before it was confirmed – that DC Films want to make Harley Quinn more like Deadpool, in terms of breaking the fourth wall and leaning into her irreverent sense of humor. Birds of Prey already ticked those boxes, though, and she’s much better off with her own personality instead of trying to ape what the competition are doing, but we all know Warner Bros. will staunchly refuse to learn from any mistakes, even if the possibility of another solo effort is more remote than ever.

Cruella 2 Reportedly In Early Development, Based On 101 Dalmations

Disney’s Cruella put the studio in the unique position of fundamentally changing who the title character is and what her motivations are, while still leaving the door open for sequels, with the post-credits scene even laying the groundwork for another live-action adaptation of 101 Dalmatians.

Of course, we already saw Glenn Close bring the puppy-skinner to such vivid life in the 1996 smash hit that earned over $320 million at the box office, which went on to get a sequel four years later that didn’t perform anywhere near as well as its predecessor, but the early signs are definitely there that the Mouse House might give it another go.

The credits stinger does what every origin story inevitably does and ties itself to the events of its inspiration in clunky fashion, after it turns out that Cruella herself is responsible for giving Roger Dearly and Anita Darling spotted companions Pongo and Perdita, which invites any number of questions as to why she’d return with a vengeance many years down the line craving their fur for her latest creation.

Some of these questions might end up getting answered, though, now that we’ve heard from insider Daniel Richtman that a Cruella sequel is in active development and will look to incorporate several well known elements of 101 Dalmatians into its narrative.

Based on how the movie ended, it’s either going to be a brand new take on the animated classic, or there’s going to be some bizarre explanation as to how Emma Stone’s gift-giver changes her mind and decides Pongo, Perdita and their brood are deserving of a horrific death, which sound a little dark for Disney. Either way, it’ll be very interesting to discover how the Mouse House plays this one out in Cruella 2.
