Chris Hemsworth Says He Might Call Mel Gibson For Mad Max: Furiosa Advice

Chris Hemsworth Says He Might Call Mel Gibson For Mad Max: Furiosa Advice

Tom Hardy might have done a solid job with the role in Fury Road, but when most people conjure up an image of Max Rockatansky in their heads, chances are it’ll be Mel Gibson they see. After all, George Miller’s 1979 original remains one of the most profitable movies ever made after earning over $100 million on a $350,000 budget, and served as the launchpad for the leading man’s career.

Mad Max was just Gibson’s third feature film, but went a long way to kick-starting his ascent up the Hollywood ladder that saw him reign as one of the biggest stars in the business throughout the 1980s and 90s, and that’s without even mentioning the first two installments in the franchise are stone-cold classics, while Beyond Thunderdome is still a hugely enjoyable threequel.

Fury Road may have spent over 20 years stuck in development hell, but Miller never planned on having Gibson return to the fold, although that isn’t going to stop Chris Hemsworth from potentially reaching out ahead of the upcoming prequel Furiosa. In a new interview, the actor admitted he might give Gibson a call for some post-apocalyptic advice, before going on to reveal his excitement at getting to play in the Mad Max sandbox.

“It’s something I’m going to put my heart and soul into because it really is for me, out of everything I’ve done, the biggest pinch-myself moment because I’ve grown up watching it.”

Production on Mad Max: Furiosa is set to begin later this year, with the fifth installment in the series set for release in June 2023. Anya Taylor-Joy will lead the project as a younger version of Charlize Theron’s titular character, with Hemsworth reportedly set to play Dementus, described as being breathtakingly handsome with an angel’s face, which shouldn’t be too much of a stretch for him to pull off.

Michael B. Jordan Says He’s Flattered That Fans Want Him To Play Superman

Michael B. Jordan Says He’s Flattered That Fans Want Him To Play Superman

Based on nothing but his filmography, you get the distinct impression that Michael B. Jordan is a big fan of the superhero and comic book genres. After breaking out in 2012’s Chronicle, he voiced Cyborg in animated film Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, played Johnny Storm in Josh Trank’s infamous Fantastic Four, executive produced and guest starred in Netflix series Raising Dion and faced off against Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa in Black Panther, while he’s also set to produce DC’s Static Shock.

However, one role that the actor’s name continues to be linked with on a regular basis is Superman. Jordan admitted that he’d spoken to Warner Bros. about the Man of Steel a couple of years back, and he’s regularly been named as a potential candidate to suit up for the impending reboot being produced by J.J. Abrams and scripted by Ta-Nehisi Coates.

In a new interview, the 34 year-old revealed that he knows Coates pretty well given the writer’s connection to the Black Panther comics, but refused to be drawn into the speculation surrounding Superman despite admitting that he’s flattered to find himself as a fan favorite choice.

“He was responsible for the reboot of the Black Panther comic books that Ryan Coogler worked closely to adapt and he’s an incredible writer. Yeah, I know him for sure. I’m flattered to be a part of all these conversations and rumors, you know better than anything else how many things I’ve been rumored to play, it’s a lot. There’s but so much time in the day and days in the year.

It’s just flattering that people still think of me in that type of way, to be able to play these characters and want me to to some degree. I’ll just leave it at that. I think from that perspective it’s cool to see a powerful black man and heroic character and be larger than life and be super. I think it’s symbolic on a lot of different levels. In that regard that would be pretty cool.”

We still don’t know anything about the Kryptonian reboot, with the official announcement the beginning and end of the concrete information made available by Warner Bros., but Jordan is a very busy man over the coming years, so he might not even have the time for Superman even if he was offered the role. As well as making his directorial debut on Creed III, he’s got roles in Denzel Washington’s A Journal for Jordan and Danny Boyle’s Methuselah coming up, while Amazon’s action thriller Without Remorse could potentially lead to a multi-film franchise to keep him occupied.

Mortal Kombat Star Reacts To Ryan Reynolds As Johnny Cage

Mortal Kombat Star Reacts To Ryan Reynolds As Johnny Cage

Ryan Reynolds might be an A-list movie star, but he’s also gaining a burgeoning reputation as one of the marketing industry’s shining lights. The actor’s Maximum Effort company has created a series of viral ads with their fingers on the pulse of popular culture, leading to him being crowned as Adweek’s Brand Visionary of 2020, as well as finding himself on the shortlist to name 2019’s B2C Content Marketer of the Year.

He sits on the board of directors at Match Group, with Maximum Effort creating the memorable Satan vs. 2020 spot, while he roped in Rick Moranis for a rare live-action appearance to shill his Mint Mobile service, and the long-running feud between Reynolds and Hugh Jackman has been used to both raise money for good causes and promote their respective Aviation Gin and Laughing Man Coffee brands.

Reynolds’ latest ingenious marketing tactic saw him leverage fan support behind him playing Johnny Cage in a Mortal Kombat sequel to celebrate Mint being named as 2021’s best cellphone plan, and it worked a treat by generating plenty of buzz on social media. Leading man Lewis Tan also caught wind, and fully supported the idea of his Deadpool 2 co-star tackling the role, which you can see below.

Tan’s Shatterstar hardly got much time to shine in the Merc with a Mouth’s sequel before meeting a grisly demise, so you can understand why Mortal Kombat‘s Cole Young would be more than happy to team up again. It’s seems very unlikely that the second installment could even afford him though, with Simon McQuoid’s martial arts actioner costing $55 million to make, and Reynolds regularly pocketing upwards of $20 million each time he signs on to play a major role in a project.

Michael B. Jordan Says Chadwick Boseman Didn’t Need An Oscar To Validate His Legacy

Michael B. Jordan Says Chadwick Boseman Didn’t Need An Oscar To Validate His Legacy

Fans were stunned during last weekend’s Academy Awards ceremony when the Best Actor prize went to Anthony Hopkins for his devastating turn in The Father, when all signs were pointing to Chadwick Boseman scoring a posthumous victory for his phenomenal final performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

The late star had been sweeping the board all throughout awards season, and the fact the Oscars telecast was changed so that Best Actor would be the last prize of the night had many people thinking it was a foregone conclusion. However, once Joaquin Phoenix read out Hopkins’ name, the broadcast was forced to end on a surprising and incredibly rushed note after the 83 year-old wasn’t present either in person or virtually, with the time difference meaning it was roughly 4 am for the veteran Welsh screen legend, so he’d have long since been tucked up in bed.

There was a huge backlash, with the Academy facing accusations of exploiting Boseman’s death after they banked on him winning only to see it blow up in their faces, but Michael B. Jordan doesn’t think his Black Panther co-star needs an Oscar to validate his legacy, as he revealed in a new interview.

“This is how I honestly and truly really feel about it; There’s, like, there’s no award that can validate his legacy. There’s no win that can take anything away from the lives around the world that he impacted. So you gotta look at the things that we can control and the things that the gifts and the blessings that he left us and that’s this incredible body of work and what he represents for as a person and as the biggest one we could really ask for.”

Based on everything Chadwick Boseman‘s friends, colleagues and former collaborators have said about him in the months following his tragic and untimely passing, you get the impression awards season glory was never too high on his list of priorities, and Jordan is completely right in saying that a trophy won’t take anything away from the impact he made on those around him before being taken far too soon.

Bruce Willis Signs Up For Yet Another VOD Action Thriller

Bruce Willis Signs Up For Yet Another VOD Action Thriller

Despite turning 66 years old last month, Bruce Willis is more prolific in front of the camera these days than he’s been at any point during a career that dates back over 40 years. Admittedly, the majority of his output sees him turn up in a VOD action thriller to deliver some exposition while barely even trying to conceal his boredom or lack of interest, and that looks set to continue following the news the Die Hard legend has signed on to lend support in Soul Assassin.

The project will mark the feature length directorial debut of Jesse Atlas, based on his award nominated short film Let Them Die Like Lovers. The premise sounds like it could be pretty fun, though, as it follows a man killed in action during an experimental military project who then gets replaced by a former black ops soldier, who possesses the ability to transfer his consciousness from body to body in an effort to track down the person responsible.

Coming 2 America‘s Nomzamo Mbatha and former Legends of Tomorrow star Dominic Purcell are also on board, with cameras set to start rolling in June. Despite the intriguing premise, Bruce Willis‘ presence is enough to generate skepticism surrounding Soul Assassin, based entirely on the rapidly declining quality of his filmography over the last decade.

In the last three years alone the actor has appeared in ten VOD actioners, all of which hold a Rotten Tomatoes score of between 0% and 21%, and Soul Assassin is now the seventh effort in the genre on his upcoming schedule alongside Out of Death, Midnight in the Switchgrass, Apex, American Siege, Reactor and Gasoline Alley, so a return to form might not be on the cards just yet.

Dwayne Johnson Reportedly Banned From Talking About The SnyderVerse

Dwayne Johnson Reportedly Banned From Talking About The SnyderVerse

Over the last month or so, there’s been a flurry of speculation swirling around Dwayne Johnson potentially swooping in to save the SnyderVerse from the scrapheap. The actor is currently shooting Black Adam for Warner Bros. and DC Films, but despite fans pleading for him to get involved he’s never mentioned the SnyderVerse or Zack Snyder’s Justice League once, either in interviews or on any of his social media accounts.

As the various stories went, The Rock was making Black Adam the way he saw fit without any significant or notable input from the studio brass, followed up by reports that the cosmic comic book adaptation would reference events and characters from Zack Snyder’s time as part of the DCEU, as well as rumors that he’d both contacted WB exects about restoring the SnyderVerse and they’d be powerless to stop him from doing so even if they wanted to.

It would be remiss to say that particular trail has gone cold when it never really officially heated up to begin with, at least not publicly on Johnson’s part, but the latest twist in the purported tale is that the action hero has been banned from talking about either the SnyderVerse or Zack Snyder’s Justice League, as you can read below.

“Dwayne Johnson is a fan of the Snyder Cut, but because he’s a producer on Black Adam, he too isn’t allowed to discuss or mention the SnyderVerse in any way whatsoever. He also signed a contract with WB to promote Black Adam across all his social media accounts, which means he’s banned from saying anything about the SnyderVerse online.”

While it certainly fits the narrative that he wants to save the day but finds himself powerless to do so, the very notion of a gag order makes it even harder to separate fact from fiction, especially when the alleged ban flies in the face of previous reports claiming Johnson has the power to veto the boardroom and incorporate the SnyderVerse into his Black Adam universe off his own back. It’s all very murky behind the scenes at Warner Bros., but one thing you can bank on is that this conversation is far from over.
