John Cusack Reportedly Attacked By Cops At Chicago Protest

John Cusack Reportedly Attacked By Cops At Chicago Protest

In a video posted on Twitter late last night, actor John Cusack can be seen getting harassed and even attacked by police officers simply for watching and filming the ongoing civil unrest in Chicago. Cusack is one of several celebrities who’ve participated in the nationwide protests that began earlier this week in response to the death of Floyd George, and the institutionalized racism which caused it.

According to various news sources, the Illinois-born actor was cycling around the city of Chicago in an effort to document the protests and share them with his followers on social media. In the video, Cusack can be seen recording a burning car when an unidentified voice repeatedly tells him to vacate the area. As he leaves, the sound of metal hitting metal can be heard off-screen, which is apparently the sound of cops hitting his bike with their batons, an event which the actor confirms happened in the caption that accompanied the video.

Meanwhile, in another tweet, Cusack also said that he saw authorities use tear gas and pepper spray to break up protesters, sights which led him to conclude the protests weren’t likely to end within a matter of days.

As mentioned before, John Cusack isn’t the only celebrity to partake in the protests, which have spread to Los Angeles, New York City, Nashville, Atlanta, and numerous other cities throughout the country. Ariana Grande, for instance, was seen joining protesters in LA while, elsewhere in the same city, The Flash star Kendrick Sampson was shot an alleged 7 times by rubber bullets, all of which fired by policemen.

Halsey, Machine Gun Kelly, and Nick Cannon have also gone out into the streets. Other prominent Americans, meanwhile, including Oprah Winfrey, Beyoncé, and Ice Cube, have been promoting the movement through social media.

The Best New Movies That Hit Netflix This Week

The Best New Movies That Hit Netflix This Week

You know the drill at this point. The coronavirus has shut down production and distribution of original content worldwide, which includes those that are financed by Netflix. Fortunately for the streamer, however, its business model allows the company to scavenge all of entertainment history for undiscovered gems and present them to the quarantined masses. In fact, quite a few interesting titles hit the platform this week, and here’s the best of what arrived over the past few days.

First up we got The Lincoln Lawyer. This 2011 crime thriller, directed by Brad Furman and starring Matthew McConaughey, follows a lawyer who unknowingly takes on a client who not only committed the crime of which he’s been accused of, but also bears responsibility for a multitude of other horrific acts. Though critics didn’t exactly shower it with love, it’s widely regarded as the project which kicked off the McConaissance, and for that reason alone it might be worth checking out.

Next up we move on to horror, a genre which, given the state of the world, ought to have waned in popularity but, thanks to the perverse ways our human minds are wired, has only increased in demand as the coronavirus pandemic took hold of our lives. Should you be in the mood to put your faith in humanity to the test, then, you may want to check out Brad Anderson’s 2001 film Session 9, whose story explores the unexpectedly sinister history of an abandoned psych ward and is quite a chilling watch.

The Lincoln Lawyer

Meanwhile, if you’re looking for something a bit lighter, then High Strung Free Dance could be the movie for you. Arriving just today, the romantic dance-centric flick follows a “choreographer and a pianist planning for their big Broadway show.”

Last but not, least there’s the world of international films which, thanks to the explosive success of Bong Joon-ho’s Oscar-winning Parasite, has become more popular than ever before. Luckily for us, Netflix is cashing in hard on this cultural sub-current, and this month the streamer is satiating our newly-discovered appetite with a gorgeous Chinese animated pic titled Ne Zha. Holding an 88% certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, this tale of a young dragon slayer is sure to hold a candle to the likes of both DreamWorks and Disney.

And there you have it, the best new movies that arrived on Netflix this week. But tell us, did you get a chance to watch any of them yet? As always, let us know down below.

The Flash Actor Kendrick Sampson Hit With Rubber Bullets During LA Protests

The Flash Actor Kendrick Sampson Hit With Rubber Bullets During LA Protests

Kendrick Sampson, an American actor best known for his roles in shows like The Flash and Insecure, was fired at with rubber bullets by policemen when he partook in protests in Los Angeles yesterday afternoon.

The civil unrest, which has since spread to other cities, including New York, Atlanta, Nashville and Chicago, is a response to the choking of George Floyd, an African American man whose slow and gruesome death at the hands of the officers who apprehended him for passing and possessing an insignificant amount of counterfeit currency, was caught on camera and has since become the epicenter of both American news and social life.

The actor was filming the events going on in downtown LA for his Instagram account when police forces barraged him with rubber bullets. The shooting, which was simultaneously caught on cameras by CNN, is only one of many incidents of authorities using excessive force to disperse protesters. According to actor John Cusack, who also sought to document the protests, police forces have made use of pepper spray and tear gas, too.

“They shot me four times already. I already got hurt and I got hit with a baton,” Sampson said. “Y’all ain’t see no police f—ing up white folks when they took guns to the statehouse. Y’all didn’t see police attacking white folks, beating em up with batons, shooting them with rubber bullets when they brought guns to f—ing state houses. We came up here with no weapons, with masks.… And we’re the ones who are not peaceful.”

Kendrick Sampson

Kendrick Sampson and Cusack are not the only celebrities who’ve gotten involved with the protests. Numerous other prominent Americans, including singers Ariana Grande and Halsey, as well as rapper Machine Gun Kelly, have been found in the street. Meanwhile, many of their showbiz colleagues, like talk show host Oprah Winfrey and pop star Beyoncé, are using their influence to aid the movement through social media.

In one especially extensive move, late night host Jimmy Kimmel implored his followers to remember these incidents come next election, and use their sentiment to vote President Donald Trump, whose outrageous and careless comments – including a recent one in which he gave cops permission to shoot civilians – have further divided the country along lines of race and power, out of office.

Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Star Wants In On The All-Female MCU Movie

Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Star Wants In On The All-Female MCU Movie

Over the last few years, there’s been an increased call for Marvel to make an all-female Avengers movie, likely based off the A-Force superheroine team from the comics. To date, Kevin Feige has yet to officially announce one, but that hasn’t stopped fans from asking for it. The fun of it would be in seeing the women from all corners of the MCU come together. Maybe even the TV shows, too, like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Well, if such a thing was to go ahead, Chloe Bennet would love to reprise her role as Daisy Johnson AKA Quake in the movie. In an interview with Playboy, Bennet was asked about the possibility of an A-Force type film and made clear that she would jump on the opportunity, assuming she got an invite. Which she doesn’t think is impossible.

“If they would have me, I would love to be part of that. She’s an Avenger in certain comic books, so I would absolutely love that. With the Marvel universe you can never say never. Look at Clark Gregg: He has died probably 800 million times as Coulson and comes back to life. I’ll always have room in my heart for playing Daisy. I’d be very excited if that opportunity came to me.”

Unsurprisingly, many of the leading ladies of the MCU have advocated an all-female movie in the past – Scarlett Johansson, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan and Elizabeth Olsen included. With even more heroines coming to the franchise in the near future, like She-Hulk and Miss Marvel, it seems like the right time for such a project has got to be coming soon.

As Bennet reminds us, though, her tenure in the MCU appears to be drawing to a close as AoS is ending after its seventh season. This week’s opener established Coulson and the crew traveling into the past in order to stop the alien Chronicoms from altering history – interestingly, it looks like the season will tie into the wider MCU in some fan-pleasing ways, too.

Make sure to catch the final season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as it unfolds Wednesdays on ABC. Though hopefully it won’t be the last time we see Bennet in the MCU.

Adam Sandler Movies Continue To Dominate Netflix This Weekend

Adam Sandler Movies Continue To Dominate Netflix This Weekend

Most people would probably agree that Adam Sandler is one of the most divisive personalities in modern-day Hollywood. His movies usually do pretty well at the box office, and find themselves with tons of viewers if they’re Netflix exclusives, but his lowbrow comedic efforts often get destroyed by critics, who constantly call him out for phoning it in.

That being said, he’s more than capable of stepping outside his comfort zone to bring us strong dramatic performances, just like he did with the recent Uncut Gems. In fact, his work in the film was so good that many even thought he could end up with a Best Actor Oscar nod. Of course, that didn’t happen, but it’s still one of Sandler’s best efforts and it seems that Netflix subscribers agree.

Indeed, the movie has been dominating on the platform for almost a week now, but it’s not alone. Just Got With It, another of the actor’s films, has also found itself in the Top 10 list on Netflix for the past several days as well, proving that viewers just can’t get enough of Adam Sandler.

As of today, Uncut Gems sits at #1, with Just Got With It resting comfortably behind it, and you can see the entire list down below for what else is popular on Netflix right now.

Uncut Gems

Of course, the popularity of these two Sandler movies shouldn’t come as a surprise to those who’ve been keeping up. After all, not too long ago, we leaned that over two billion hours of the actor’s output have been streamed on Netflix since he inked that exclusive deal with them back in 2014.

Clearly, there’s a very loyal and hungry audience out there who are more than happy to indulge in Adam Sandler material, be it his more dramatic work or his comedic stuff. And for those fans, the good news is that he’s got a lot more on the way, with upcoming projects like Hubie Halloween and Dan Pan in the works, as well as a new movie with LeBron James.

The MCU Will Reportedly Have 3 Different Ghost Riders

The MCU Will Reportedly Have 3 Different Ghost Riders

Marvel Studios have had the rights to Ghost Rider since 2013, but they’ve seemingly had little interest in rebooting the character as part of the MCU. The Robbie Reyes version showed up in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4, with star Gabriel Luna initially set to return to the role in a spinoff show on Hulu, but that got the axe last year.

Still, the rumor mill surrounding the beloved antihero has been running at full speed, especially following the news that Keanu Reeves might be in talks to play the character. Kevin Feige has already told fans that the studio speaks to the actor for just about every project that they make, and Reeves’ screen persona makes him the perfect choice to bring the MCU’s Ghost Rider to life.

However, one thing that’s still unclear is which version of Ghost Rider will be joining the cinematic universe. After all, several names have held the mantle in comic book history. And while Marvel still hasn’t answered that question just yet, it now seems we may be seeing multiple versions show up.

At least, that’s according to industry insider Roger Wardell. The leaker, who’s proven to be a reliable source of information in the past – especially when it comes to MCU scoops – took to Twitter the other day to share that the studio has plans to introduce not one, not two, but three different Ghost Riders.

While Wardell doesn’t specify which versions of the hero we’ll get, his intel seems to line up with We Got This Covered’s own reports, with our sources having told us that both Johnny Blaze and Cosmic Ghost Rider are on the way. As for who the third one may be, well, take your pick.

Robbie Reyes or Alejandra Jones seem like good guesses, but at this point, we can only speculate. If one thing’s abundantly clear though, it’s that Marvel has big, big plans for Ghost Rider. Let’s just hope we get to meet the first version sooner rather than later, whoever it might be.

Ben Affleck Reportedly In Talks To Return For Justice League Snyder Cut Reshoots

Ben Affleck Reportedly In Talks To Return For Justice League Snyder Cut Reshoots

Even though Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson are currently gearing up to resume production on The Batman, it appears as though the line hasn’t quite been drawn under the previous incarnation of the Dark Knight just yet. Along with the news that the Snyder Cut of Justice League is on the way to HBO Max, there’s also been speculation that Warner Bros.’ owners AT&T are interested in having Ben Affleck return to make his originally intended version of the movie, with the company actively leaning into the rumors on social media.

Although nobody can seem to officially confirm whether or not the Snyder Cut will involve the stars of the movie returning for reshoots in person, the fact that the cast have publicly backed the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement in the past certainly indicates that the vast majority of them would be more than happy to suit up for their director if he asked them for assistance.

And while Affleck has seemingly left Batman in his rear-view mirror and moved onto the next stage of his career, we’ve now heard from our sources – the same ones who told us a Justice League Dark show is coming to HBO Max and The CW is developing an Arrow spinoff, both of which were correct – that the actor is willing to at least hear what Zack Snyder has to say and is now in “early talks” about shooting some new footage for the re-edited Justice League.

According to our intel, there’s no guarantee that it’ll definitely happen, but Affleck is said to have softened his stance on ever donning the cape and cowl again. The two-time Academy Award winner has always been vocal in his support of Zack Snyder and has opened up about both the personal and professional challenges he faced when trying to get The Batman up and running, so maybe he has some unfinished business with the character that could convince him to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne’s costumed alter ego.

Deadpool Might Take Over Stan Lee’s Cameos In The MCU

Deadpool Might Take Over Stan Lee’s Cameos In The MCU

The Stan Lee cameo has been a cherished tradition in Marvel movies for a long time now. But with the iconic comic book creator no longer with us, it seems a new tradition may be about to take its place. Namely, the Deadpool cameo.

At least, that’s according to insider Roger Wardell, who’s got a proven track record when it comes to Marvel scoops, accurately leaking a lot of information about Endgame last year, while also dropping several other nuggets over the past little while that’ve proven to be true.

Taking to Twitter earlier this month – on what seems to be a new and presumably, replacement, account – he shared the following bit of information:

Marvel considering to utilize Deadpool for brief cameos after DP3 release. Stan Lee will continue to show up in more sophisticated and subtle manner.

Wardell seems to be saying here that Deadpool is going to take over the traditional Stan Lee cameos while Lee himself will continue to be included but given that he’s no longer alive, his appearances will be more subtle. So probably something like his face on a poster, or painting or a photo of him in the background somewhere. Stuff like we’ve already seen. For instance, Stan appears in graffiti art in Deadpool 2.

In some ways, this idea actually makes a lot of sense given that the meta-humored Wade Wilson is one of the rare Marvel heroes who can get away with breaking the laws of continuity. Then again, some people may not like the thought of Deadpool stepping in for the beloved Stan Lee and may feel that no one should replace his cameos – even if Lee will still be used in a subtle manner.

Tell us, though, what do you make of this? Is it a good idea? And should Marvel go ahead with it? Let us know down below.
