We’re hearing reports that Superman may make an appearance in the second season of DC Universe’s Titans. According to Cosmic Book News, the Man of Steel could feature in a similar way to Batman in season one, appearing as a background figure. This move ties into the role of Superboy in the series, who is partly cloned from Kal-El’s DNA. Joshua Orpin will play the younger clone, with no further news currently available on who might step into the role of Superman, if and when this does actually happen.
While it’s difficult to give much credence to this rumor at the moment, the presence of Superboy and Krypto in Titans makes it at least plausible. If the series does go down the same route as the glimpses of Batman in the first season, then Superman could pop up in a similar way to his cameo in Shazam!, where we don’t really get more than the iconic costume. You can see more of Orpin’s Superboy in the latest trailer for Titans season two above.
It’s not as if there aren’t enough characters to go around for Titans‘ sophomore season, with the likes of Deathstroke and his children Ravager and Jericho, adding to a roster that includes Aqualad and Mercy Graves, among others. We should also at least get to spend time with Iain Glen’s Bruce Wayne, who shows up in the trailer, although we’re still waiting to see whether he suits up as Batman this season.
Anyone wanting more Superman on their screens don’t have far to look, though, with the character appearing in various forms on the upcoming Arrowverse “Crisis on Infinite Earths” event. So far, we have confirmation of Brandon Routh as Kingdom Come Superman, Tyler Hoechlin’s already-established Earth-38 Superman, and some indications that Tom Welling will reprise his Smallville role.
Some of the Titans cast will also reportedly cross over for the “Crisis”, so we may get a Superboy/Superman pairing that way instead. We’ll be sure to let you know as soon as the Titans Superman rumor is shown to have substance, so be sure to check in with us ahead of the second season’s premiere on Friday, September 6th on DC Universe.
