Doctor Strange 2 – or to use its full title, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – was officially announced at Comic-Con earlier this month, with Kevin Feige unveiling a few exciting details about the movie. For one, it’s been teased that the film will be more horror-influenced than we’ve seen before in the MCU and Strange will be paired up in the sequel with Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch.
The main antagonist of the movie, however, was not specified. For the longest time, though, it’s been speculated that Nightmare would be the Sorcerer Supreme’s latest nemesis. Director Scott Derrickson has been open about his interest in utilizing the character many times, for one, and We Got This Covered’s own info has suggested Marvel already has a shortlist of actors to possibly play the ruler of the Dream Dimension.
Now, we’ve had it confirmed by our sources that Nightmare will indeed be the villain and here’s how he could fit into the narrative. We’ve been told that Strange will become aware of the threat when Nightmare starts hunting down people in their dreams, causing the hero to face off against him. But it seems that the villain will have the upper hand at first as our source – the same one who revealed Black Adam will be in Shazam! 3, and that Shang-Chi will feature the real Mandarin, both of which have since been confirmed – says he’ll make Strange and Wanda “see some crazy stuff,” which is apparently where the horror quotient of the movie will come from.
We’ve previously brought you the news that Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Mordo will be a supporting antagonist in the film, with it exploring his descent into darkness. It’s expected that he’ll then join forces with Dormammu to really test Strange’s mettle in Doctor Strange 3. As for the second flick though, Feige may have teased that Clea, the good doctor’s mystical love interest in the comics, will also feature.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is locked in for release on May 7th, 2021.
