Even though Mortal Kombat 11 hit store shelves more than a month ago, the newest entry in the long-running series still has plenty of fresh content coming down the pipeline. Earlier this week, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and developer NetherRealm Studios announced that a handful of new fighters were in the works, including one which might be familiar for longtime comic book fans.
Available now as part of a higher-priced premium edition, or separately for $39.99, the aptly-named Kombat Pack grants access to 18 bonus skins for existing MK 11 characters, a Johnny Cage Ninja Mime skin and gear set, and, most importantly, four brand new fighters. Aside from so-called Klassic Kombatants – namely, Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, and Sindel – the paid DLC unlocks Spawn, Todd McFarlane’s iconic comic book character. Each of these new additions to the roster come with their own skin and gear set, and NetherRealm has also confirmed that two other guest fighters will be coming at a later date.
For those who aren’t aware, Todd McFarlane’s Spawn is one of the world’s best-selling and longest-running monthly comic books, with hundreds of millions of copies sold worldwide in more than 120 countries and 15 different languages. The series tells the story of Al Simmons, an elite government assassin who was betrayed and killed by the CIA. Instead of dying, he sells his soul to Hell for a second chance at life, and becomes Spawn, an unstoppable soldier fighting the underworld. For his MK11 incarnation, the character will be voiced by Keith David, who was the original actor from the Emmy award-winning HBO animated series.
We’re pretty excited to see Spawn making the jump to Mortal Kombat 11, and we can’t wait to see how he handles in-game. Of course, we’re equally stoked to find out who the remaining guest fighters are, especially since characters such as Jason Voorhees and Leatherface made their way to MKX. We’ll keep you updated as to the identity of the other two Kombatants, and in the meantime, be sure to check out our full review of Mortal Kombat 11.
