With Disney’s takeover of Fox, Marvel Studios has the rights to the Fantastic Four at last so it’s just a matter of time before the First Family are folded into the MCU. A recent rumor pointed to this happening much sooner than later, claiming that an FF reboot was set for release in 2022 with Ant-Man director Peyton Reed at the helm.
However, a different source has come forward to denounce this report from Geeks Worldwide. Roger Wardell has become a trusted source, with the social media page accurately leaking the contents of Avengers: Endgame last December. It’s obviously too soon to corroborate his more recent info, but Wardell is saying that Marvel is not actively planning a Fantastic Four reboot as they have enough on their slate as it is.
“Fantastic Four rumor that’s going around is totally false,” Wardell wrote on Twitter. “They have enough on their plate already.”

This makes sense, really, as we’ve previously been told not to expect the influx of Fox characters to be integrated into the MCU for about five years, so a 2022 movie would be a bit soon. Marvel president Kevin Feige has also echoed Wardell’s words and commented that he’s too busy with the deep pool of MCU characters to think about the likes of the FF and the X-Men just yet.
That said, there were some things that rung true about the earlier report. Redoing the Fantastic Four before the X-Men just seems like an all-round smart move – former X-Men director Matthew Vaughn agrees – and Peyton Reed has been vocal about his desire to make a film starring Mr Fantastic’s crew for years. It’d make sense for Feige to entrust the franchise to him.
But apparently this isn’t happening… At least, not yet. It sounds like we just need to sit tight and wait for further news on the future of the Fantastic Four.
