The Flash EP Discusses How Crisis On Infinite Earths Could Impact The Show

With the season finales of various Arrowverse series now being upon us, the inevitable summer hiatus will come shortly. But before you know it, our favorite DC TV shows will resume and the next major crossover event, “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” will grace airwaves.

Those of you who’ve read the comic book on which it’s based know of how adapting it in any sense will be a massive undertaking. But considering how this had been originally teased as far back as The Flash‘s pilot episode, I think the producers always hoped to build to such a thing, no matter how great the challenges.

While recently speaking with ComicBook.com, executive producer and showrunner Todd Helbing admitted he assumed what many of us likely did while also pondering how a post-Crisis Flash may be affected:

“When I first read the pilot, and then I saw the pilot, I always assumed that that fight would be the series finale. So yeah, I like it a lot, moving it up. Look, there are so many things we can do after that. I think it’s a nice way to get to that sooner than later, and it has changed my view of the show. I think it actually sort of is going to inject a new sense of energy into the show, which in a season-six show you always want. I think the timing is perfect.”

Considering how the Scarlet Speedster is the network’s top draw and how he has the rest of his sixth season to fill out – not to mention how it’s already been revealed that Oliver Queen will die – I think it’s safe to say Barry Allen will come out of this one alive. But after that, we could see other threats such as the Red Death emerge.

For more on the show’s immediate future, here’s the official synopsis for the season finale, “Legacy”:

BARRY FACES OFF WITH REVERSE FLASH — Barry (Grant Gustin) faces off with his oldest, and most formidable nemesis, Reverse Flash (Tom Cavanagh). Gregory Smith directed the episode with story by Lauren Certo and teleplay by Todd Helbing & Eric Wallace (#522). Original airdate 5/14/2019.

The Flash airs on Tuesday nights on The CW.
