While other Marvel Cinematic Universe films are certainly more memorable or exciting, Spider-Man: Far From Home is shaping up to be one of the franchise’s most interesting movies. Taking place after Avengers: Endgame, the next MCU effort directly addresses a handful of the series’ most important events. For instance, despite his death, Iron Man has a strong presence in Spidey’s next adventure, which also tackles how the world is adjusting to the undoing of Thanos’ destructive snap.
Aside from the appearance of an alternate-universe Mysterio, it looks like Far From Home will also tease an entirely new set of villains, if a recent rumor is anything to go by. As reported by MovieWeb, Peter Parker’s newest film sets up the web slinger’s future in its final moments. While Endgame didn’t feature any sort of end-credits scene, the next MCU movie does, and it’ll reportedly introduce the Sinister Six.
A Redditor who claims to be a VFX freelancer had the following to say:
“There is a mid-credit scene and a post-credit scene, but only one is super important, which is the mid-credits. I haven’t directly seen the post-credits scene, but another artist told me it was something comedic with Happy and Peter, which has an insignificant impact on the overall story arc.”
Meanwhile, MovieWeb breaks down the rumor a little further, stating that:
Apparently, Norman Osborn bought Stark Tower, and that is where the Sinister Six will be seen gathering. Though, this seems like quite a bit of information to shove into a two minute post-credit scene. There is apparently a large neon green sign that spells out OSCORP where the Stark lettering used to be. This report claims that the entire credit cookie will last for 45 seconds.
Granted, this is just a rumor, but it’s not without merit. Back when Sony and Columbia Pictures worked on the Amazing Spider-Man series, there were plans to produce a standalone Sinister Six film. While this was eventually laid to rest, it’s worth noting that half of the villainous squad has already been established within the MCU.
The original team of six debuted back in 1964 with Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1, and was comprised of Doctor Octopus, Kraven the Hunter, Sandman, Mysterio, Vulture and Electro. Within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the latter two debuted in Spider-Man Homecoming, and as we all know, Mysterio will make his first appearance in Spider-Man: Far From Home, which hits theaters on July 2nd. As such, it’s not too crazy to think that they’ll be showing up in the film’s post-credits scene and if earlier reports are to be believed, Osborn will indeed be the MCU’s next big bad.
