One reason among many as to why I preferred Avengers: Endgame to Infinity War was that the screenplay wasn’t as nearly overcrowded with characters from around the Marvel Cinematic Universe. By paring the story down to the essential characters, the narrative had ample room to breathe – though the cavalry still arrived in full effect during the climactic battle with Thanos. That, however, was something I was perfectly okay with because it made for quite the visual spectacle.
Like I said, the focus was mostly placed on the original six – Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye – and that’s really all you need to make a truly good Avengers movie. As such, it was only fitting that their first outing as a cohesive group be revisited during the time traveling segments included in the picture.
To be honest, going back to the events of 2012’s The Avengers was probably my favorite portion of trying to correct Thanos’ wrongs. Perhaps Joe and Anthony Russo also realized the significance of what they did, as they preserved the moment with a photograph reuniting Earth’s Mightiest Heroes with the dastardly Loki. Recently posted to the directors’ Instagram page, the image can be viewed below.
What made this portion of the flick doubly satisfying was that we saw what immediately followed Marvel’s marquee players striking iconic poses over their fallen foe. Of course, whatever ramifications came to be due to Loki absconding with the Tesseract are yet to be explored, so perhaps it’s best we pick up that conversation at a later date.
In the meantime, why not go see Avengers: Endgame at least one more time in theaters if you haven’t done so already? If we band together, then box office history will be made by making this the highest grossing film of all time. The record breaking is actually nearly upon us, and who doesn’t like seeing a new king emerge?
