Ahead of the release of Avengers: Endgame, folks were excited to see what sort of future the sequel would tease for the franchise with its post-credits scenes. After all, the film marked the end of the epic Infinity Saga, leaving viewers with a ton of questions about the next era of the MCU. So, when it turned out that Endgame had nothing after the credits (at least, no scenes), well, perhaps the disappointed response from fans was to be expected.
In an interview with ComicBook.com though, writer Stephen McFeely explained that they never even considered adding in something after the credits. And when asked why, he stated that it’s simply because Endgame is the end. It’s the culmination of 22 films and as such, didn’t need anything after the final credits had rolled. You know, except for that little easter egg they snuck in there.
“Oh no,” McFeely said. “Remember, you’ve been sold this, the whole world’s been sold this. This is the end. This is the culmination of 22 movies, and if we gave you an advertisement for another one, that we would be sort of being disingenuous. So that’s why it’s such grand credit sequence, you know, it really is a farewell. No, there was never an end credits tag.”
While the writers may say they weren’t thinking about what’s next for the MCU, it’s still pretty clear that Avengers: Endgame plants a ton of seeds for future projects, be it the Loki show, the Falcon and Winter Soldier TV series or even Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. But before any of those projects hit our screens, we’ll first get see how Peter Parker adjusts to life after death when Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 2nd.
After that, it’s hard to say exactly what the future holds for Marvel Studios, but with numerous projects all in various stages of developments, it’s likely that the MCU will only be getting bigger and better from here.
