Joe Russo Says Avengers: Endgame Will Feature Stan Lee’s Final Cameo

Avengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo spoke at an event in India earlier today, where he suggested that this month’s release will be the last MCU movie to honor the tradition of the Stan Lee cameo.

The legendary comic book creator passed away last November, though not before filming a scene for the recent Captain Marvel, as well as the the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War sequel. At the Mumbai fan event, Russo remarked that it was an honor to work with Lee, having previously been a fan of his comics:

“I grew up on his comic books. Stan Lee was an idol of mine as a kid. To be able to have the opportunity to not only to work under the material he created but to work with him is a childhood dream come true.”

The Russo Brother also mentioned that he believes Endgame will be Lee’s final film, contrary to previous speculation that he might also have a cameo in Spider-Man: Far From Home:

“I believe that his final cameo is in Endgame. I don’t remember if he was well enough to do the cameo in Spiderman homecoming. But it was incredible to work with him.”

In an interview last month with Entertainment Tonight, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige was forthright about Lee having a cameo in Endgame, but only offered a cryptic “We’ll see” on the possibility of the writer appearing in the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel. From the sound of things, we perhaps can’t rule out Lee featuring in Far From Home just yet, but if Marvel’s Phase 3 finale really is his final film, then it would surely be as fitting a point as any to end the tradition on.

In any case, with less than four weeks to go until the release of Avengers: Endgame, Marvel Studios has recently brought its promotion to a whole other level. This last week alone has seen the release of dozens of posters and a couple if featurettes. Meanwhile, the first tickets are expected to go on sale tomorrow, at which point, you can expect a frantic online scramble to ensue for those early seats. After that, you can judge for yourself if the film is worth all the hype when it arrives in theaters on April 26th.
