Further Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Gameplay And Story Details Teased By EA

As a single-player, story-focused affair, it goes without saying that EA and Respawn are limited on what they can and can’t say regarding Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Nobody wants a brand-new, bespoke narrative set in a Galaxy Far, Far Away to be spoiled for them right off the bat, of course, but the publisher has let a few tidbits slip to whet fans’ appetite. As part of a press release dispatched to coincide with Fallen Order‘s cinematic trailer at last weekend’s Star Wars Celebration, EA not only confirms several prior suspicions but reveals a handful of new details, too.

Chief among the new batch of info is confirmation that Fallen Order will begin its story on the planet of Bracca. A brand new addition to the wider Star Wars universe, this is presumably the world seen in the cinematic trailer where Cal is hiding from the Empire as a manual labourer. Forced to flee Bracca after revealing his affinity with the Force, EA says Cal will meet new characters, as well as run into some “familiar faces” on the way. Who those might be is anyone’s guess, but they’ll likely provide Cal with indispensable help against a particularly dangerous force pursuing him across the cosmos.

As many fans had speculated, Cal will find himself doggedly chased across the stars by the Empire’s Inquisitors during the course of the game. As elite soldiers tasked with hunting down any Jedi to have survived Order 66, the Padawan will, in the early hours, at least, be ill-prepared for the danger they pose. As seen in the trailer, specially trained Purge Troopers will aid the Inquisitors with their task.

Gameplay is stated to be Respawn’s “top priority”, though it won’t all be centralised around combat. Puzzle-solving and exploration via platforming and other traversal abilities are par for the course in the “galaxy-spanning adventure,” according to EA. As depicted in the trailer and corroborated by earlier leaks, wall-running will undoubtedly be one such method of terrain traversal, and given how Respawn handled the feature in its Titanfall series, expect movement to feel expertly fluid.

As for combat, it’s looking increasingly likely that it’ll draw heavy inspiration from FromSoftware’s Dark Souls trilogy, though we’ll need to see it in action before any conclusion can be made. Expect more on that front at this year’s E3.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order releases November 15 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
