Did Game Of Thrones Just Foreshadow A Major Character Death?

He may not be a Stark, but Jon Snow Aegon Targaryen is still one of the most honorable Game of Thrones characters in all the land. Save for maybe Ser Brienne of Tarth.

So it came as no surprise when Kit Harington’s Warden of the North (?) plucked up the courage to tell Daenerys about his true lineage, even if it would fracture their blossoming relationship beyond repair. It’s a very Stark thing to do, isn’t it? And that’s the problem.

As the good folk at Mashable point out, Stark family members have a habit of spilling secrets, or revealing inconvenient truths, moments before their deaths. Brandon the Elder, Rickard, Ned, Robb, Catelyn, and Rickon Stark all succumbed to a similar fate, so did Game of Thrones just telegraph one of its biggest twists? That Aegon Targaryen is about to bite the bullet?

While Game of Thrones has a habit of foreshadowing major plot points, it’s important to remember that this trope is largely exclusive to the Stark family. And Aegon isn’t a Stark, is he? Even if his moral code says otherwise. So there’s a very good chance that showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are simply toying with our expectations.

Then again, this is Game of Thrones we’re talking about, a show that isn’t afraid to bump off your favorite character without so much as a moment’s notice, and this being the final season… well, all bets are off.

Speaking of which, the Night King and his army have arrived at the gates of Winterfell, laying the groundwork for the Game of Thrones equivalent of the famous Helm’s Deep battle from The Lord of the Rings – simply swap out Sauron for the Night King and Uruks for wights and you have some approximation of the war to come. April 28th is the date for your diaries.
