Avengers: Endgame is being plugged as the grand finale to the the first decade of the MCU, which we’ve taken to mean that it’ll wrap up the story of the original Avengers team. Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans have previously stated that their contracts are up with this movie, but one source is saying that the third member of Marvel’s Big Three, Chris Hemsworth, will be sticking around as Thor for a few more years yet.
In their illuminating article on just how much the stars of the cinematic universe have earned over the past couple of films, The Hollywood Reporter casually drops the news that Hemsworth is contracted for more projects going into Phase Four.
“Chris Hemsworth, i.e. Thor, who signed with Marvel for five movies in 2010, then renegotiated in 2017 for Infinity War and Endgame, putting himself in the $15 million to $20 million range and ready for the next phase of films.”

Though welcome news, this isn’t a total surprise, as Hemsworth himself has seemed much more hopeful about his future with the franchise than some of his co-stars, even going so far as to say that he’ll play the God of Thunder for as long as Marvel wants him to. Likewise, Tessa Thompson has spilled the beans that a Thor 4 with herself and director Taika Waititi possibly returning has been pitched.
Avengers: Endgame also leaves the door open for more of the hero, as he ended the movie deciding to make Valkyrie queen of New Asgard as he set out to travel around the cosmos to find a new purpose. He actually left Earth with the Guardians, which has led some to theorize that he could return in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Again, Hemsworth sticking around for Phase 4 hasn’t been confirmed by Marvel just yet and so far has only been reported by one outlet, but THR is pretty reliable and it does make sense with what we’ve heard before. So, good news, Thor fans: we could be in for a lot more Hemsworth hijinks in the MCU following Avengers: Endgame.
