Avengers: Endgame Writers Address The Chances Of A Falcon Movie

To say Avengers: Endgame shakes up the pieces on the board of the MCU would be a huge understatement. More accurately, it picks up the board and throws it against a wall. For instance, it says goodbye to many characters we’ve known for the longest time, with Steve Rogers getting the happy ending denied to him back in The First Avenger by using time travel to reunite with Peggy Carter.

Thankfully, though, this doesn’t mean the Marvel universe is without a Captain America, as the now-elderly Rogers handed his shield and superhero mantle onto his good pal Sam Wilson by the end of the movie. So, is there a bright future for the new Captain America in the MCU?

NY Times put the question to Endgame writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely and asked if they’d write a solo Sam film. The duo couldn’t confirm whether this is on the cards, but they did say which character they might tackle instead.

“We really do just know what you know. They’re doing “The Eternals,” which is a property I know next to nothing about. We’ve been here, trying to set this contraption running. Were we to take another one on, you can’t increase the scope or the stakes from where we are at the moment. We’d have to shrink it back down, do an origin story. There are deep-bench characters where I’m like, if you roll that guy out, I couldn’t resist. There is a great Moon Knight movie to be made, but I don’t know what is.”

Even if Marvel doesn’t have any plans to follow the Captain America franchise with Anthony Mackie in the lead – which would be a huge misstep, given the huge potential – at least we know we’ve got more for Sam on the horizon. Falcon and Winter Soldier is coming to Disney Plus and is set to be a buddy-cop type show starring Mackie’s Wilson and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes.

Going by the title, it’s set pre-Avengers: Endgame, though beyond that, we don’t know much in regards to what to expect. As soon as that changes, though, we’ll be sure to let you know.
