If you ventured out to see a showing of Avengers: Endgame this past weekend (you probably did), then you were witness to one hell of a movie. Not only did it provide great fan service to those who’ve followed the Marvel Cinematic Universe to this point, but it also featured some beautiful sendoffs for a few key characters.
In my view, one of Endgame‘s great strengths was that it didn’t feel as bloated as Infinity War. By paring down to a limited number of heroes, the narrative was give ample chance to breathe. Still, the cavalry showed up in full near the end of the third act, so we were given much reason to cheer.
Still, some people weren’t entirely happy, as a percentage of moviegoers wanted to see more of Okoye. Their reasoning is that she was prominently featured on the film’s theatrical poster, and these folks do have a point. Granted, the studio was probably just trying to display characters who weren’t dusted by Thanos’ snap last time around, so the size of her advertised role could be construed as misleading.
But if we’re to break down the plot, there wasn’t as much room for Okoye as one would wish. When you consider how the time traveling aspect hearkened back to several key moments in MCU history, you couldn’t really include Black Panther due to its lack of Infinity Stones, now could you?
Regardless, I did enjoy seeing Okoye marching into battle with a number of female superheroes in a delightful nod to the A-Force comic books. Whether or not the studio ultimately decides to move forward with such a project remains to be seen, but that’ll forever remain a highlight during the climactic fight.
Avengers: Endgame is now playing in theaters.
