As Marvel Studios takes its Avengers: Endgame promotion to the next level, this week has seen a couple of key developments emerge on The Eternals, the second of two MCU movies that are expected to drop next year.
A couple of days ago, THR broke the news that Angelina Jolie is poised for a lead role in Chloe Zhao’s film, and now we have a new report from HN Entertainment telling us that Marvel is aiming to start production on September 16th. The article also doubles down on a previous rumor that filming is scheduled for London, UK, and though they can’t confirm that the production will shoot at Pinewood Studios, the report cites this as very likely.
While Marvel Studios is staying fairly quiet on any plans beyond their 2019 slate, this latest report offers hope that there’ll be plenty more Eternals news to come in these next few months. In particular, it’d be nice to get a little more casting info, as well as perhaps a few plot details. As it stands, your average filmgoer knows next to nothing about the property, so it could be interesting to see how the studio will try to hook in the public for this one.
That being said, one rumored development that’s sure to garner a lot of attention if it turns out to be legit is that the film will feature the MCU’s first gay lead. While Marvel has yet to confirm the claim either way, they have hinted repeatedly at the likelihood of LGBT representation coming to the franchise in the near future. Either way, there’ll be plenty of time for further details before The Eternals comes out in the second half of 2020.
