New Fortnite Season 8 Leak Teases An Underwater Vehicle

Fortnite Season 8 is well underway and it’s already given gamers new events, cosmetics, challenges and even an active Volcano, ensuring that Epic’s über-popular shooter remains fresh and fun even in the face of fresh competition from Apex Legends. And things are just getting started, too, as rumors have pointed to a respawn feature and a few other bells and whistles coming down the pipeline. One of which might be a new vehicle.

Given that planes were vaulted at the start of season 8, fans have been speculating on what Epic may replace them with for a while now and a new leak may’ve just revealed the answer. Thanks to some data-miners, some new files referencing “Athena_OctopusSpawner” have been discovered, suggesting that this upcoming vehicle will be Octopus-related and thus, be used for underwater situations.

No further information was found aside from that name, but we do know that the developer’s got something in the works, as they revealed as much the other week, saying:

“We’re working on a new single-occupancy vehicle and aren’t quite sure how they’ll play together. The Driftboard’s reception has been really positive though, so we’re actively discussing how long it should stick around,” said Epic Games employee EpicEricSW.

All that being said, looking at the map in its current state, we’re not sure if there are really enough water-based locations to justify adding a vehicle like this or make it relevant, but who knows? Epic’s surprised us before and this certainly sounds like something that could be just wacky enough to fit in with the world of Fortnite.

As Season 8 continues to unfold, the developer will no doubt tell us more about what they have planned, but in the meantime, there’s plenty to keep Fortnite fans busy. Battle Pass challenges, in addition to a brand new treasure map feature containing all sorts of nifty loot are what’s catching most gamers’ attention and you can find out more about the latter right here.
