If a recent Production Weekly listing is anything to go by, then the long-awaited Black Widow solo movie is set to begin filming in June, suggesting that we may see a few cast members confirmed in the coming months. But in the meantime, a new report from That Hashtag Show alleges a few details about the villain of Natasha Romanoff’s standalone outing.
It’s believed that one of the main reasons why shooting for Black Widow was delayed a few months from its previously reported date was to allow for rewrites from scribe Ned Benson. And while the extent of Benson’s work on the script is unclear, it’s said that the antagonist may have undergone a few changes.
According to a THS report from last year, Marvel was looking for an actor in his 40s of any ethnicity to play the villain in Cate Shortland’s film. Now it seems that the same site has received an update indicating the studio is aiming to cast a Black British or African actor in the 30-45 age range to portray a “tough, dangerous and mysterious” villain.
Though the details on the character seemingly end there, THS also reaffirms their previous claim that the film will feature a second female lead described as a “kick ass female Bond,” as well as a “bookish” male in a Paul Dano vein.
Though principal photography on Black Widow is said to begin just a few months from now, before potentially wrapping in October, it’s believed that Marvel Studios won’t officially announce the project at least until after the MCU’s 2019 release slate is over and done with. We may even have to wait until the D23 Expo in August for Kevin Feige to start discussing details, but in the meantime, we’ll find out what’s next for Nat when Avengers: Endgame comes out on April 26th.
