Earlier this week, yet another batch of Avengers: Endgame toy leaks dropped online showing off the team’s new costumes. Among the action figures exhibited was one for Captain America, who can be seen wearing the same white suit that he sported in the latest trailer, but on closer inspection, fans have noticed one little detail in his outfit that may hint at a major development to come.
As Reddit user Pluralizes points out, Steve Rogers appears to be wearing the same helmet that he had in 2012’s The Avengers. Now, before we jump to any conclusions, it’s worth noting that the Hasbro toy might well be modeling its headgear on an older design for the character, rather than taking anything directly from Endgame. But assuming that Cap really is wearing his old helmet in the Avengers: Infinity War sequel, then this feeds into one of the most popular theories regarding the film.
As leaked set pics make clear, Endgame will be revisiting the Battle of New York from The Avengers, and the internet’s favorite prediction for how this will happen has long been time travel. In fact, it’s widely speculated that the team’s new white suits will help them journey back into the past by allowing them access to the time vortexes in the Quantum Realm. And once the gang has found their way back to the Battle of New York, yet another popular prediction is that the team will want to be stealthy in conducting their mission (whatever that is), hence the old set photos of Tony Stark in a S.H.I.E.L.D. tactical vest.
Put all that together, and the case might be made that Cap is wearing his old helmet in order to pose as the 2012 version of himself. Granted, this is still just speculation for the time being, but it’s at least something to think about until Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
