If you’ve made it onto this page, then chances are that you have every intention of seeing Avengers: Endgame on the big screen, in which case, there’s an argument to be made that you might as well go all the way and see it on the biggest screen you can find.
Last year’s Avengers: Infinity War was the first Hollywood feature film to be shot entirely on IMAX cameras, which makes the upcoming sequel the second in line to get this treatment. And if you’re on the fence about whether to get an IMAX ticket, the company has released a video placing the IMAX and non-IMAX versions of the film’s first trailer side-by-side to emphasize the added content that comes with the expanded aspect ratio.
By now, the internet has scrutinized Endgame’s December trailer for all it’s worth, and even the IMAX edition has been the subject of some heavy analysis from the fans. Nonetheless, the new video, viewable above, really puts the differences into perspective, though you can argue that the best reason to go IMAX for Endgame is the enhanced detail of the image, rather than the ratio of the frame.
But IMAX or no IMAX, it’s clear that cinemas will be flooded with filmgoers come April, with Researcher Exhibitor Relations recently predicting a record-breaking domestic opening weekend haul of $282 million. Not bad for a movie that’s so far released less than three minutes’ worth of promotional footage, though it’s looking likely that another trailer will be with us by the end of the month.
In any case, you can decide for yourself if Avengers: Endgame lives up to the insane amount of hype behind it when the film hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.
