Fortnite season 8 is now here, arriving complete with a pirate war, cannons, Volcanic Vents, new locations and a thoroughly remixed battle royale map. With these additions comes a set of new challenges, too, which we’ve outlined in full here. But, just as in previous seasons, you can accumulate Battle Stars to progress up the Battle Star Tier.
The new challenges seem designed to get players to explore the map as thoroughly as possible, including learning the new Volcanic Vent mechanics and seeking out the pirate camps that have just been added to the map. Complete all those challenges and you’ve got the opportunity to hunt down this week’s hidden Battle Star.
To turn this up, you have to head to the new Lazy Lagoon area and head towards the pirate ship anchored in the middle of it. Just beyond that ship’s a small town with a tall tower in it, with the star appearing at the very top of the tower. As has been the case across previous seasons, expect there to be a hidden banner next week, followed by another battle star and so on.
Meanwhile, some of Fortnite‘s best players seem to be enjoying the new content. @TypicalGamer says the Season 8 is “real fun” and that he’s had one million playbacks of his stream this morning alone. @WhosDixon (among many others) is full of praise for the revamped UI and @Ninja seems as enthusiastic as ever, Tweeting: “LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO.”
Interestingly, there’s a bit of criticism of the much-discussed revamped soundscape for the game. Epic had explained that they were changing the footstep and weapon sounds to give attentive players clues as to where to hunt down other players, but @WizKayTV has said that this is “extremely unnecessary” and @Thiefs has said that the “audio is literally awful. I can’t tell where anyone is.”
Tell us, have you earned the hidden battle star by completing the challenges yet? And is the new content in Fortnite Season 8 enough to drag players away from Apex Legends? Let us know in the comments.
