The Resident Evil Series Has Now Sold Over 90 Million Units

It’s safe to say that Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 remake has been a huge success. Not only has it fared really well with the critics but it’s resonated well with the fanbase, too. The good news for the iconic survival horror franchise doesn’t just end there, though.

The developer announced today that their marquee horror series has now sold over 90 million units worldwide. This number includes all of the series’ releases so far and to put things into perspective, Resident Evil 2 remake has sold over 3 million units as of the time of writing. Not too shabby for a Mature horror game, eh?

With these new sales figures in mind, it’s clear that the Resident Evil series has comfortably become the Japanese publisher’s best-selling franchise of all time. With 24 different releases under its blood-soaked belt, and debuting way back in 1996, Resident Evil still looks like it has plenty of life in its dusty, reanimated bones.

But what’s next for this awesome survival horror franchise? Well, there are still rumours circulating about a possible Resident Evil 3: Nemesis remake and we’ve also heard that development has already begun on the unannounced Resident Evil 8, which apparently could be going back to a third person perspective much like the latest Resident Evil 2. That being said, take these rumours with a grain of salt for now as nothing concrete’s been officially confirmed as of yet by Capcom.

But with three classic Resident Evil games releasing on Switch in May and with new free DLC dropping for the excellent Resident Evil 2 remake, it truly is a great time to be a fan of the iconic horror series. Not to mention that if nothing else, these new sales numbers surely mean that there’ll be a lot more Resident Evil coming down the pipeline for us gore-hounds, and that can only be a good thing, right?
