Robert Pattinson isn’t the first name that springs to mind when one thinks of the Dark Knight.
The former Twilight star has spent the past few years gobbling up one complex role after another – think The Lost City of Z or High Life, the futuristic sci-fi film for which he’s received near-universal acclaim – but according to the latest Internet scuttlebutt, Pattinson is being considered for The Batman.
He’s seemingly part of a very long shortlist that features big-name actors like Armie Hammer and industry veteran Jon Hamm, though if recent intel is to be believed, we understand Warner Bros. will skew younger (i.e. mid-20s or early 30s) when selecting their next Bruce Wayne. Based on that criteria alone, Robert Pattinson fits the bill quite nicely, so leave it to concept artist extraordinaire BossLogic to render a new piece which imagines Pattinson in the role of Gotham’s poster boy.
It’s an admittedly minimalist interpretation of Warner’s upcoming project, one which currently has Matt Reeves (War For the Planet of the Apes) in the director’s chair. And Pattinson? Well, we can add him to the list of potential candidates for The Batman, though we imagine Warner Bros. will be casting their net far and wide in search of Ben Affleck’s successor.
In short, don’t expect an official announcement for another few months at least, as the studio currently has its hands full with Shazam!, the standalone DC film that now faces the somewhat daunting task of opening in a post-Aquaman world. James Wan’s larger-than-life blockbuster was a true visual spectacle, even earning north of $1 billion at the global box office. Over to you, Billy Batson.
The Batman, meanwhile, has been penciled in for release on June 25th, 2021.
