Captain Marvel Star Needed Her Kids To Explain The Story To Her

It was a long time before Marvel Studios finally felt ready to confirm the rumors that Annette Bening plays the Supreme Intelligence in Captain Marvel, but the actress herself was already spilling secrets to her own kids about Carol Danvers’ solo debut back when she first read the script.

Bening admitted as such during her recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, explaining that she needed someone to clarify the confusing story to her:

“When I read the script, I did find it slightly confusing. However, I took into my confidence, and the confidence of the entire Disney corporation, two of my kids, who I then told the story to and asked them to please explain to me what the hell was going on.”

Presumably Bening’s children managed to keep all this MCU intel to themselves, though now that Captain Marvel has had a few early screenings, there’s been a lot of talk lately that the 20th Century Women star isn’t just playing the Supreme Intelligence, but is also assuming the role of a major figure from Carol’s past.

In any case, with the movie now just a couple of weeks away from release, Captain Marvel has managed to generate some serious buzz behind it, which was only boosted further by the social media embargo lifting earlier this week. Since then, the film has received a glowing response via Twitter, with critics having some particularly enthusiastic words to say about Brie Larson in the title role and Ben Mendelsohn as the villainous Skrull leader Talos.

The online praise for Captain Marvel will no doubt continue once the review embargo lifts on March 5th. After that, you can judge for yourself if the film is worth all the hype when it arrives in theaters on March 8th, before Carol meets up with her superhero peers when Avengers: Endgame comes out on April 26th.
