The genocidal climax of Avengers: Infinity War left the entire Marvel universe in its most depressing state to date, and with the new Avengers: Endgame TV spot, we get our best look yet at what a post-snap Earth looks like.
One thing that may have stood out to you about much of the Endgame footage we’ve seen so far is just how blue and dimly lit everything looks, reflecting the desolate state that the superhero world is currently in. Thanks to last night’s TV spot, we also have an idea of what the streets of New York will look like, with cars still piled up against each other and few actual humans in sight. From the look of things, these images come to us from shortly after the Decimation, which seems in line with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige’s suggestion earlier this month that promotion for the film will largely be using footage from the first 20 minutes or so.
Hopefully the movie will offer the chance to further explore this dismal, post-snap environment before Earth’s Mightiest Heroes embark on their next adventure. That being said, the recent TV spot already marked a shift away from this moody atmosphere with its final shot, in which the Avengers walk against a blinding sunrise that stands in contrast to the gloomy, blue-tinted visuals that came before. The symbolism is pretty clear that the team is going to bring light to the darkness, though it looks like the film could have a fair few grim moments along the way, too.
In any case, we’ll find out how our heroes plan to bring the world out of its dire state when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.
