This summer’s Spider-Man: Far From Home will take Peter Parker away from Queens for a trip around Europe in which he’ll face new villains and ally with new friends. However, according to a recent report from Deadline, an old flame and a former foe may also return in the sequel after playing major roles in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
In a piece about Far From Home‘s trailer breaking records, Deadline lists two names amongst the cast that haven’t previously been confirmed: Michael Keaton and Laura Harrier. The stars appeared in Homecoming as Adrian Toomes AKA the Vulture, the wall-crawler’s nemesis in his first MCU solo movie, and Liz, Peter’s love interest who’s revealed to be Toomes’ daughter.
It’s not that surprising to see Keaton linked with the movie, as Homecoming‘s post-credits scene virtually promised that the character would return as he chatted with Mac Gargan/Scorpion in prison about the latter’s plans to make Spider-Man pay. Other sources have also claimed that the former Batman actor would be back, while fans are hoping Vulture may be part of a Sinister Six that forms in the sequel.

As for Liz, we certainly didn’t expect to see her again. At the end of Homecoming, her and her mom leave New York following Adrian’s arrest, putting an end to her and Peter’s relationship. Not that Parker seems to mind too much, as the Far From Home trailer teases that he’s already developing feelings for Zendaya’s M.J.
If Deadline’s cast list is correct, Keaton and Harrier will be joining an all-star line-up that boasts newcomers to the Spider-Man franchise like Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill and, of course, Jake Gyllenhaal as Quentin Beck/Mysterio. The trailer suggests he’ll appear to be the new hero on the block, but comic book lore tells us he’ll ultimately be a villain.
Will he end up joining forces with the Vulture though to take down the web-slinger? We’ll have to see when Spider-Man: Far From Home swings into theaters on July 5th.
