If anything could be said about the current season of The Flash, it’d certainly be that it’s a family affair. From the opening moments of last fall’s premiere, Nora West-Allen has been a constant presence on the show, causing Barry and Iris to forge a relationship with their daughter from the future without notice. And interestingly enough, they didn’t require much of a learning curve, allowing for this new dynamic to bring even more heart to a series that was chock full to begin with.
In recent weeks, however, the trio have had to deal with some grueling hardships. If you’re current on the latest happenings, then seeing Nora getting her back broken by Cicada (fortunately, speedsters heal quickly) is still fresh in your memory. And if that weren’t enough, she got lost inside the mind of the big bad’s niece, forcing her parents to go in after her earlier this week.
If you’d like to move past the grim stuff, know that the network has assembled a new promo showing off the lighter and more action-packed exploits enjoyed by the three in a new promo. Found at the top of this article, one could describe it as a highlight reel summing up what season 5 has brought to the ongoing saga.
Where Barry, Iris and Nora go from here is anybody’s guess, though I assume it’s only a matter of time before they uncover her collusion with Eobard Thawne. Originally, I’d thought the cat would’ve been let out of the bag in “Memorabilia,” but that ultimately served as prelude for whatever’s to come.
For more on the immediate future, be sure to check out the synopsis for next week’s episode, “Goldfaced”:
BARRY AND IRIS EACH TAKE DANGEROUS STEPS TO STOP CICADA — Barry (Grant Gustin) and Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) must go undercover as criminals in an illegal black market to purchase a device that could help them stop Cicada (Chris Klein). Once inside, Barry and Ralph find their morality tested as they slip deeper into the criminal world, eventually having to choose between committing a crime, or losing the means to defeat one of their greatest foes. Meanwhile, Iris (Candice Patton) investigates a lead on Cicada’s whereabouts and ends up in a dangerous situation. Alexandra LaRoche directed the episode written by Jonathan Butler & Gabriel Garza (#513).
The Flash airs on Tuesday nights on The CW.
