Though official announcements for Matt Reeves’ The Batman have been few and far between for the past year, it’s long been rumored that the Caped Crusader’s upcoming solo movie will serve as the DCEU debut for Oswald Cobblepot, aka the Penguin, and in the wake of Reeves handing in his second draft for the script, it’s very much looking like this is the case.
What’s more, a new report from Heroic Hollywood has relayed intel that The Batman will feature another major villain whose identity remains under wraps. So until we receive further news on the matter, fans are free to present their theories and fan art on this unknown antagonist.
In any case, going by the recent THR report that the film is expected to begin shooting in November, it could only be a matter of months before we learn the identity of the second villain. In the meantime, it’s currently believed that we might get an announcement on the new Batman actor as soon as May or June, and while we heard recently that the previously rumored Jack O’Connell of Starred Up and Unbroken fame is still in the running, it sounds either way like Warner Bros. is looking for a star in the 25 to 30 age range.
The supposed reason for the younger Bruce Wayne is that The Batman is expected to take us back into the character’s past, setting its story decades before the events of Ben Affleck’s two-movie run in the franchise. With this in mind, you can perhaps rule out Jared Leto’s Joker, Ewan McGregor’s Black Mask, or any other present-day DCEU antagonist as the mystery villain – unless, of course, they too are going to be a whole lot younger – but all will be revealed in due time.
