The Main Characters In Ghostbusters 3 Will Reportedly Be Four Kids

After years of mere hints and murmurs on the potential existence of Ghostbusters 3, the news came all at once this week, starting with the announcement that director Jason Reitman will be following in his father Ivan Reitman’s footsteps to helm a sequel that marks a return to the continuity of the first two movies.

The internet was still reeling from the announcement when the film’s first teaser dropped online and confirmed the return of the old Ecto-1 vehicle. But while the footage was decidedly people-free, WGTC heard from a trusted source shortly thereafter that the two leads of the film would be a 13-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl.

Now it seems that Birth.Movies.Death. has heard much the same info from their own source about the main characters lying in this age range, while Borys Kit from The Hollywood Reporter has a little more to add himself, taking to Twitter to relay the claim that “The main characters will be 4 teens: 2 boys, 2 girls, per sources.”

If the backlash to the 2016 Ghostbusters is anything to go by, then a fair few fans will likely have their objections to this new approach, but seeing how kids dealing with spooky phenomena is kind of a popular thing right now, between the success of Stranger Things and It, you can certainly see where Reitman and his peers are coming from with the idea.

Either way, there’ll still be a few familiar adults in the mix, with Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Bill Murray all reported to be reprising their roles from the 1984 film. What their connections are to the main characters remains to be seen, but we’ll have plenty of time to learn further details before Ghostbusters 3 comes out in summer 2020.
