Supergirl Returns In New Midseason Premiere Photos

With the “Elseworlds” crossover now behind us and winter hiatus almost at its end, the time will soon come for Supergirl to resume business as usual. If you’ll remember, “Bunker Hill” saw Agent Liberty publicly unmasked as Ben Lockwood and incarcerated, yet he’s somehow emerged from the situation a hero. And if that weren’t enough, the Girl of Steel has been fired from the DEO because she won’t reveal her secret identity.

From the look of it, the Lockwood situation will take a backseat for the time being. Well, at least for the midseason premiere, that is. The reason I say that is because all promo material for the appropriately titled “Suspicious Minds” deals with Kara Zor-El now having a target of sorts on her back.

Actually, the latest exhibit comes in the form of a new photo gallery, which can be viewed below. There’s nothing too spoiler-ish, so it’s probably fair to say the producers have some surprises in store. Still, it’s apparent that Colonel Haley suffers some sort of unfortunate injury in her pursuit of the truth.

Elsewhere, it looks like Nia and Brainiac-5 are finally going on a date, though I’m not sure how romantic the evening will get. Just as the official synopsis hints, the images above paint a picture of miscommunication. If you were to ask me, Brainy is trying to help Nia hone her abilities, but we can’t rule out them becoming an item before the season wraps.

As for that synopsis to which I was referring, here you go:

COLONEL HALEY IS DETERMINED TO FIND OUT SUPERGIRL’S IDENTITY — Colonel Haley (April Parker Jones) is upset after Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) responds to a distress call from a Navy ship that turned out to be a deadly alien attack. Colonel Haley reclaims the site as DEO territory and demands that Supergirl step aside. After Supergirl refuses to be told what to do, Haley refocuses her energy on finding out Supergirl’s true identity and begins to interrogate all DEO agents, including Alex (Chyler Leigh). Meanwhile, Brainiac-5 (Jesse Rath) tries to persuade Nia (Nicole Maines) to embrace her superpowers but she misinterprets his motives. Rachel Talalay directed the episode written by Maria Maggenti & Gabriel Llanas (#410).

Supergirl returns with new episodes on Sunday, January 20th on The CW.
