The MCU hasn’t always yielded the most memorable of villains, but it seems that Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio is already leaving an impression on many a Marvel fan, with his few seconds of screen time perhaps serving as the most talked about section of the first Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer.
From those glad to finally see one of the most beloved Spider-Man villains adapted to the big screen, to viewers who feel that Marvel nailed it with the casting, fans continue to flood Twitter voicing their support for the arrival of Quentin Beck:
Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio looks SO FREAKING DOPE! #SpiderManFarFromHome pic.twitter.com/ns2OsxVlx1

them: what generation do you belong to?
me: the one old enough to have wanted Jake Gyllenhaal to play Spider-Man but young enough to see him grow up to play Mysterio. pic.twitter.com/e2YodqL51N

That last tweet hints at the fittingly mysterious role of the character in Peter Parker’s next solo outing. Though it was long assumed that Quentin would be the main villain of the piece, Tom Holland and Jake Gyllenhaal explained at CCXP last month that Far From Home would see Spidey and Mysterio as “brothers in arms” who team up to fight Elementals across Europe under the guidance of Nick Fury. Among the foes they fight together look to be the previously rumored Hydro-Man and Molten Man, as well as a figure witnessed in the trailer that many fans are thinking might be Sandman.
Of course, given the tense history between Peter and Quentin in the comics, it seems all but inevitable that the pair will fall out sooner or later, with a few fans speculating that all the Elemental attacks are somehow Mysterio’s doing. You can expect some answers when Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 5th, 2019, but in the meantime, we’ll find out how Peter and Nick Fury are back in one piece when Avengers: Endgame comes out on April 26th.
