In just over a month from now we’ll be watching Captain Marvel, which will expand the cosmic side of the MCU and reportedly set the stage for much of what’s to come after Avengers: Endgame. Thing is, the hype train has cooled just a little on the movie over the last few weeks.
Perhaps it’s the trailers that don’t quite convey what the character’s about. Or perhaps it’s in danger of being eclipsed by Endgame. Or maybe there’s just a bit of origin story fatigue creeping into audiences. Whatever the case, it doesn’t look like Kevin Feige has anything to worry about, as audiences have gone bananas with joy.
The film’s begun screening for select critics it seems and below, you’ll find just a small sampling of what folks are saying about Brie Larson’s MCU debut.
I've been in a recent #CaptainMarvel test screening and I can vouch that Carol Danvers will be next Marvel's face.
Charismatic and imposing, Danvers came to stay. The movie is amazing and I'm still in a trance. This is female power, guys.

I’m going to be a bit of a negative nelly here and say that Captain Marvel isn’t going to be “one of the best movies ever,” but it certainly sounds like something pretty special. I mean, the MCU hasn’t put out a genuinely bad film since Avengers: Age of Ultron, so I think we can safely say that this isn’t going to be a disaster.
One intriguing aspect of the screenings is how pretty much everyone’s loving the cat, which is named Goose. Lashana Lynch, who plays Maria Rambeau, has hinted in the past that there’s more to this cat than meets the eye, which has us intrigued. In a recent interview, she said:
“It’s not fully a cat. It’s a mysterious cat. The cat does things that we didn’t expect for it to do, and it’s very surprising, and it could happen at random times.”
So, what’s the deal with this pet? Well, in the comics, Carol Danvers’ cat is in fact an alien, so it sounds like they’re taking this interesting angle in the movie, too. It remains to be seen just what this cat can do, though let’s face it, a cute alien cat with mysterious powers is basically guaranteed box office gold.
It’s looking likely we’ll get a last look at Captain Marvel before release with a Super Bowl trailer this Sunday, so be sure to tune in for the big game.
