AMC Reveals Captain Marvel’s Official Runtime

The fans are more pumped than ever for Captain Marvel, and thanks to a new AMC Theaters listing, we now have an idea of how many minutes Carol Danvers’ solo debut will have to live up to the hype.

According to the site’s own Captain Marvel page, the film’s runtime sits at 2 hours and 10 minutes. And while this figure might well change in the next couple of months, 130 minutes seems pretty standard for an MCU entry. In recent years, it’s become rare to find a Marvel movie that dips much below the 2-hour mark, with even Ant-Man and the Wasp, a movie that embraced smallness in both the scale of its story and the size of its characters, having a fairly bulky length of 118 minutes.

Should Captain Marvel maintain this 130-minute runtime, then the movie’s length will sit just shy of fellow MCU entries like Black Panther (134 minutes) and Spider-Man: Homecoming (133 minutes), while being more or less even with Thor: Ragnarok.

Of course, the exact runtime is never going to be as important as how Captain Marvel plans to use it, and fans have spent much of this last year speculating on how Carol’s first standalone flick will tie in with the releases that came before it, while also setting up the events of Avengers: Endgame and the films of Marvel’s Phase 4.

What’s notable about this particular feature is that while MCU movies tend to take place over a pretty short span of time, making them easier to fit within the franchise timeline, Captain Marvel’s mid-’90s setting allows for the same sort of freedom that Captain America: The First Avenger had to spread its story over weeks or months if it so chooses. Either way, we’ll find out how the flick fills its 130 minutes when the film hits theaters on March 8th.
