The Punisher Season 2 Arrives On Netflix In January

Amidst all the mystery surrounding the future of the Netflix corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we now know when we can expect to see the second – and probably final – season of The Punisher arrive on the streaming service.

A new video from Netflix revealed what users could look forward to watching in the new year and the list included the next run of episodes starring Jon Bernthal as gun-toting vigilante Frank Castle. No exact date was given – aside from a January window – but we had a feeling that an announcement of some sort was coming, as Bernthal’s been leaving cryptic “tick tock” messages on his social media accounts of late.

While this is good news for fans, there’s definitely a tinge of sadness to the release of the show’s sophomore season, as it’s very likely going to be the last we see of the Punisher on Netflix. The streaming service has been mowing down Defenders like Thanos did with the Avengers over the past few months. Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist have already been cancelled and the general consensus is that once The Punisher and Jessica Jones air their next seasons, they’ll meet the same fate.

As for what happens after Netflix has cleaned the board of all its Marvel shows, well, we’re not sure whether the Defenders can live on on some other platform – like, say, Hulu or the Disney+ streaming service – or if these iterations of the characters will end with the Netflix series. If they do, that would certainly be a great shame. Especially for the Punisher, as Jon Bernthal was born to play the part.

Either way, we’ll keep you posted when more on The Punisher season 2 comes to light, but for now, know that you’ll be able to catch back up with Frank Castle at some point next month.
