Star Wars: Episode IX Trailer Has Reportedly Been Delayed

It’s been an ongoing rumor for most of this month that some promotion for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX will be dropping by Christmas, whether it’s a full-on trailer or a behind-the-scenes featurette. But as the 25th draws closer, some fans are starting to have their doubts, and in a new report from the Express, an explanation is offered for why it could still be another month or so before we get to see some footage.

First off, the case is made that with no reports of official classifications for the preview, and with this week’s release of Mary Poppins Returns serving as one of the year’s last major opportunities for a trailer drop, the chances are looking kind of slim that the teaser will come out in the next week. And to be honest, the outlet may have a point, even if fans can still hold out hope that Lucasfilm has a holiday surprise planned.

In any case, the Express piece relays the unverifiable intel that Disney is debating whether or not to release the teaser this month, and that they may delay the preview in order to keep the current focus on the studio’s other major releases like Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel, and The Lion King. The source goes on to stress that we could still be getting some Episode IX material before the year is out though, perhaps combining this promotion with a Christmas Day push for the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge area which launches in theme parks next year.

Overall, the report paints a pretty uncertain picture, but we’ll know soon enough if fans are right to worry about a delay. Either way, it’s now exactly one year before we get to see the movie in full, with Star Wars: Episode IX hitting theaters on December 20th, 2019.
