As the Oracle said in The Matrix Revolutions, “Everything that has a beginning has an end” – and so, too, must Gotham.
By now, you may have heard how the Batman prequel series will soon commence its final season, so it’s recommended you savor that bad boy for all it’s worth once it graces airwaves beginning this winter. Fortunately, though, two more episodes have been added to the tally, thereby making it a 12-chapter affair.
If you’re current on the show, then you’re aware of how Ben McKenzie has done more than just playing Jim Gordon. In fact, he’s even gotten in the director’s chair and lent to the creative process from a different perspective. And to the surprise of nobody, his input will continue until the very end.
You see, while attending Rhode Island Comic Con, journalist Clare Kramer found herself at a panel McKenzie was speaking at, where he confirmed he’s writing the final episode to be filmed. Any information beyond that, however, currently eludes us.
Keep in mind the words “series finale” weren’t used in the Tweet, so we can’t rule out some of the final installments being shot out of order. Don’t forget, the extension to twelve episodes occurred very late in the game, so that’s why I’m suggesting there could bee a non-linear filming schedule going down.
Actually, something similar happened with Smallville a while back, as that series shot the second hour of its finale well in advance of the first so the producers could accommodate for Michael Rosenbaum’s return as Lex Luthor. The first hour, as you probably deduced, was the last to be recorded.
Gotham returns for its fifth season on Thursday, January 3 on Fox.
