No, Jack O’Connell Is Not Replacing Ben Affleck In The Batman

Whether or not you enjoy Ben Affleck’s portrayal of Batman (I do), the reality of the situation is that another actor will eventually run with the torch. To be completely honest, I firmly believe that’ll happen sooner rather than later because Warner Bros. probably wish for director Matt Reeves to start fresh, as opposed to having the dark cloud of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League hovering over him.

In recent memory, various actors such as Kit Harington and Oscar Isaac were said to be considered as Affleck’s successor, though neither panned out. Still, that hasn’t stopped fans from rallying around Jon Hamm, who looks like Alex Ross’ Dark Knight brought to life.

Earlier today, rumors began circulating of how Jack O’Connell was supposedly being eyed by the studio, but according to The Wrap’s own Umberto Gonzalez, that’s not the case. In fact, it didn’t take him very long to Tweet out the following:

FYI, just like I suspected, Jack O’Connell/Batman rumor got officially shot down. “This is 100 percent incorrect.”

What the scoopster supreme had to say next actually makes a lot of sense, too:

Like I previously said, the current DC regime is dedicated to nailing the script down first before going out to talent.

As you may know, The Batman lacks any sort of theatrical date, so it’s very doubtful that WB is rushing to the finish line. Not only that, but it’s important to note that Reeves’ screenplay technically hasn’t received a green light, so it’s entirely possible for his vision to never come to fruition.

If you don’t believe me, simply Google Batman Triumphant/Unchained, Boaz Yakin’s Batman Beyond, Batman: DarKnight, Darren Aronofsky’s Batman: Year One, Wolfgang Petersen’s Batman vs. Superman, or, heck, even Ben Affleck’s previous attempt at The Batman. See what I’m getting at?
