While Marvel Studios has been tearing it up on the big screen for more than a decade, television efforts from another division of the Disney arm have not been…as great. First came Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, then came the Netflix series’ and now, content for Disney’s upcoming streaming service.
We know about shows starring Loki and Scarlet Witch, while reports of a Nick Fury show have surfaced as well. Now, though, a new rumor from Slash Film’s Peter Sciretta claims something bigger and better is actually being worked on. Here’s what he said in a pair of tweets published earlier this week:
“Yes, Disney is working on other Marvel Cinematic Universe shows for their streaming service. But No, from what I’ve heard it’s not a Nick Fury series as reported recently on those unreliable Marvel fan sites. It’s something bigger and better. Something more. Oh and to be clear, we haven’t reported what we’ve heard (even though it’s from a good source) because we’ve yet to find a reliable second source for the information and Disney isn’t commenting.”
The big question here (aside from if anything on streaming services will be as walled off as the ABC and Netflix shows are) is what exactly could something more be? Some have speculated the Fantastic Four could receive the starring treatment after multiple failed theatrical ventures, but I don’t know about that.
Based on what’s been rumored, I see it as being something with already introduced Marvel Cinematic Universe characters. Perhaps it’s an anthology-like “What if?” series. This would certainly be something big and would leave stars with the chance to do creative things while still being available for other work. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
What do you think Marvel Studios is working on for Disney’s upcoming Netflix rival, though? Let us know in the comments section down below.
