It’s been a touchy-feely sort of week over on the Marvel end of Twitter as Chris Evans received an outpouring of tributes from fans of the Avengers 4 star.
The Captain America actor stirred up some online feels when he took to social media to announce that he’s now completed his reshoots for the upcoming sequel to Avengers: Infinity War, drawing his eight-year run as the First Avenger to a close. The full message from Evans read as follows:
Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.
In the wake of this heartfelt tweet, everyone from Ryan Reynolds to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been showing their sentimental side in support of Evans. And when Marvel fans weren’t reading into this message as a sign that Steve Rogers was going to die in next year’s film, they were singing Evans’ praises by way of the trending #ThankYouChrisEvans hashtag.
I am an adult with grown up problemes, but I am currently crying because @ChrisEvans portrayal of Captain America meant so much for me. Just like for these kids. He is Cap. Thank you Cap.

While Evans may be out of the game already, Steve Rogers still has one more movie to get through, and if the speculation is anything to go by, Cap could well live up to the film’s newly rumored title of Avengers: Annihilation.
In any case, Evans isn’t the only star who looks to have shot his last scene for the MCU, with fellow Phase 1 lead Chris Hemsworth reportedly wrapping filming a couple of weeks ago. Like his friend Steve, Thor’s fate in next year’s release remains unclear, but as the torch is passed to a new generation of superheroes, you can bet that we’re in for some emotional send-offs when Avengers 4 comes out on May 3rd, 2019. Plus, just imagine how the internet’s going to react when Robert Downey Jr. finally bows out. It’s only gonna get weepier from here, folks.
