Could Captain Marvel Feature A Young Hawkeye?

When Nick Fury sent out a distress signal at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, he essentially paved the way for the coming drama of two future MCU installments: the ensemble actioner Avengers 4 and the Brie Larson-led solo outing Captain Marvel. But while the telling red and blue pattern that popped up on Nick’s pager after sending the signal suggested that Carol Danvers herself was on the receiving end of that message, a new theory on Reddit argues that the page was actually going out to a more familiar figure from the MCU.

As this piece of speculation observes, Fury has a habit of keeping tabs on Earth’s most powerful inhabitants and strangest phenomena, but he rarely does his surveillance directly. Though Black Widow was sent in to monitor Tony Stark in Iron Man 2, more often the job is left to Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, with the archer being charged to keep watch of both Mjolnir in Thor and the Tesseract in The Avengers.

So, while we know that Fury already made his acquaintance with Captain Marvel in his younger days, the Reddit posts suggests that Clint’s the one who’s been keeping a line of contact with her. If this is in fact the case, then it follows that not only was Hawkeye charged with relaying the message to Carol at the end of Infinity War, but is also likely to make an appearance in the Captain Marvel movie, presumably with some de-aging effects of his own.

Admittedly, there’s not a lot of evidence to back up this prediction, though it would sure be an efficient move on Fury’s part to bring both Carol and Clint into the action with a single, last-minute page. In any case, you’ll be able to catch both Fury and Carol when Captain Marvel lands in theaters on March 8th, 2019, before Hawkeye shows off his brand new look when Avengers 4 comes out on May 3rd.
